If any of the PS3's key titles gets announced for another system it is a huge hit to Sony. First GTA4, then Assassin's Creed... now if it was FF13 or MGS4 I would be shocked.

To me, if either of those switch systems the PS3 could die, especially in the homeland (Japan).

That's a really good guess. I'd say that an HDDVD addon pricing announcement, plus a super-premium bundle with it at a good price, but no price drop on the existing systems just yet.

They'll wait until closer to the holidays... plus, while I was pretty sure they would drop the price this year, the announcements of the PS3 price and now the extreme lack of systems (half a mil worldwide?) could have changed their plans...

360 Premium (maybe with a bigger HDD?) and HDDVD for $500? Wouldn't be a bad price if the HDDVD player is better quality than the XBox DVD player was.

Agreed. The Jedi would feel that one. If SONY loses its last few big 3rd party exclusives, they could also lose an important fraction of their potential buyers. I for one will probably be forced to purchase a PS3 at some point because there are still some PlayStation exclusives I want to play badly.

edit 1: PS3 does not materialise as we know it. To stick true to (or excel rather) original claims that the PS3 is infact becoming the next line of computers from Sony. Runs Windows XP/Vista (though not with full DX10 as the PS3 simply cant), or perhaps their own brand of linux? Seeing the PS3 is not in production yet it seems like anything could happen.

If anything, it's certainly not 360 related.

Nintendo released the name of Wii prior to E3, this could be another drop of information so they can focus on showcasing it next week. I hope it's really something like this and not "Table Tennis for 360" type "big news"

Square Enix is actually in a bad position here. If the game comes out on PS3, it'll drive PS3 adoption but a lot of people simply can't afford $500-$600. If they release it on XBox 360, 95% of Japan would never touch anything with the XBox name (the GameBoy Micro outsells it in Japan), and it either wouldn't sell or it'd drive XBox 360 adoption.

I doubt graphically that it'd work on the Wii. There might be a FFXIII spinoff on Wii though.

IBM has announced that their Broadway chip custom-designed for Nintendo's Wii console is not only already in Nintendo's hands but has been since July. "We have been shipping well within this quarter (July)," said Ron Martino, director of IBM Technology Collaboration Solutions. "In fact, we have shipped a significant volume in this quarter."

So what does this news mean to gamers who have been waiting patiently for a release date from Nintendo? Well, considering that Nintendo has had their hands on a large amount of the final Broadway chips since July, we can easily speculate that the Wii could feasibly be released within the next few weeks. Perhaps by the end of the month.

Nintendo has also confirmed their reception of IBM's chip: "The first chips are in our possession," said Genyo Takeda, Senior Managing Director/General Manager, Integrated Research & Development Division, Nintendo Co., Ltd. "Today's milestone marks the final stage of our drive to reach both core and nontraditional gamers with an inviting, inclusive and remarkable gaming experience."

When I asked Martino about the power behind the Broadway chip, all he could do was compare it to the Wii's predecessor, the GameCube. "Compared to the Gekko in the GameCube, it's 20 percent more power efficient. It also performs significantly better. The key point is that it is Power Architecture-based and custom-made and optimized for Nintendo," he said. "This is a critical milestone for us at IBM. We have been very pleased with the entire development project."

I pressed Martino to compare Broadway to the other consoles they've had an integral part in developing for and he wouldn't budge, only commenting on what Nintendo was able to offer. With this news and Nintendo confirming the shipment of "6 million systems to retailers around the world between its launch in the fourth quarter of 2006 and the end of its fiscal year on March 31, 2007," we fully expect Nintendo to make an official announcement next week during their event in New York City. And as previously mentioned, we expect a release date far sooner than what has been projected.

Yesterday afternoon, we ran a post that generated an immense (and unexpected) amount of interest and speculation. Instead of defusing the prolonged PR tease that Nintendo has been escalating for the past year, we contributed to it. Instead of doing our readers a service, we added more confusion to the situation. The post was vague and left only room for disappointment which, inevitably, came at 12:01.

The worst part is, we understand that it was our hard-earned credibility that contributed to this excitement cocktail. There are gaming websites that trade in hype, and we've always prided ourselves on avoiding it. If we tell you that something is "major" and "worth waiting for," naturally you would expect it to be. As you've all no doubt noticed by now, news that IBM has begun shipping processors for Nintendo's Wii console, while potentially telling, is hardly the sort of megaton announcement we alluded to or fans were dreaming of. It became increasingly clear as the comments increased and the diggs increased, that we would reap what we had sown. Our credibility and reader trust are all we have, and we are taking measures immediately to ensure that we don't make this mistake again. We're very sorry for the error in judgment.

Sonic CD is my favorite of the Sonic games, though I enjoyed the Japanese version much better because of the electronic soundtrack. This version only has the American tunes on it.

Have any of you played Sonic Rush on DS? I looked at it on IGN and it looks pretty good. I'm thinking about picking this one up. I just got my DS a few weeks ago and there are so many games that I want.

Edit: If you have played it, is most of it 2d or 3d. I see a little of both from the screenshots. I really hope it's 2d like the old games. I really didn't care for Sonic 3D much.

Yes its 2d with some 3d elements (very few - odd boss battle - but even then plays out in a 2d manner.. etc) and it is generally accepted as being the best sonic game since 1 & 2....

The game is fun, but the two screens simultaneously thing can be a b****. Boss battles are in 3-D but play out in a 2-D manner. It's mostly for effect.

I'm still fond of Sonic 3.

Sonic sucks.....period but the new one seems to have something. Now I think I would be up for a Wii if it is released in October...with MP3 and Zelda...I would be good unitl RfOM come to light.

Here's another prediction since i'm getting eerily accurate at these :)

Since RFOM is being developed in the UK, they may use the hardware delay to give themselves an extra 3 months tune up time, and release it as a launch game for Europe, meaning it wont be a launch title in the US. Japan dont give a **** about FPS games anyway.

Regarding Japan and FPS games, I've heard that people over there tend to get nauseous easily... :)

I doubt that one....America is still there and getting more PS3s than JP. Sony won't allow the most watch game on the PS3 flame their arses again. Although it could happen and Sony takes more heat...I don't think they will do it....they better dont!


Well if they do delay RFOM....then I'll go for broke and get nothing at launch(HA!) and play my PS2 games.

I wrote a detailed argument about why Sonic Rush is terrible for my blog, but it crashed out. All I have left is a text document with about 20% of the original. some key notes-

- Where has the inertia gone? This is a Sonic game, its about speed and intertia. Every other 2D Sonic game has had this making it difficult for series fans to perform the pixel perfect jumps.

- WHY ON GODS SWEET EARTH is Tails talking about "a rip in the space time continuum"?!?! holy mary it's a SONIC game! It's about a mad doctor turning animals into robots. And why is he commenting in boss battles and saying "Yes!" when I arrive on a new zone on the map?

- Why is the music *****? they basically stole Louie Louie for the water levels.

- Level design from the worst of Sonic games - Sonic Advance 2. Huge sprawling roller coaster levels. Nothing memorable. Nothing like the old Sonics.

Err it's on a tiny handheld screen. Thank fu8k they didnt have pixel perfect jump requirements. That would drive 99% of people insane

Because it's 10 years later. Tails has been to Uni and got a degree in StarTrekOnimy.. :p

Nah I love the level design. Really good use of the dual screen and sonic can finally rush through the loops bends tunnels and tracks like he used to in casino zone and such. Its great.

I agree with you here. The level design isn't nearly as full of character as the original Genesis titles. Or even the first Sonic Adventure.
