I've been playing halo on a 19" inch CRT at full settings without problems. I just switched to a 20" widescreen LCD display and its stutter city.

This is my hardware

G4 MDD dual 1.25 GHz processors with 1.5 gig ram
video card Radeon 9800 Pro with 128 meg V ram
Display 1680 X 1050 @60Hz

DSL internet connection

What are the best video setting to give me good visual performance and frame rate?

thanks

you're having problems with hardware like that?

I have a 17" powerbook (the one with the same 1680x1050 res as your 20") and I can play halo with maxed settings with no problem.

Did you set the res in Halo? It may be confused?

Your replies are encouraging. I'll did a little deeper to see if something else is amiss. I did reset the resolution to 1680 x1050. My MDD has been feeling a little sluggish but I attributed that to Intel Mac envy. ;)

The stuttering is in the multiplayer mode. I'll try rebooting the dsl modem.

Any other thoughts?

You set the resolution that high on an MDD? Of course it's going to stutter at 1680x1050!

If I don't have the horsepower to run Halo with all the eye candy on then it may be time for an Intel Mac. :)

Is there a way to display frame rate in the multiplayer mode?

Not that I know of. But why get an Intel Mac just to play Halo when you could get a used Xbox and Halo 1 + 2 for a tenth of the price?

Because if I got an Xbox I would not have an Intel Mac. ;) And I want an Intel Mac.

I had your same setup and it ran Halo well with correct settings. Here is a Halo performance thread from a long time ago. Still applies today:

At some point in the thread we found that there was one specific problem that yields great frame rate:

Having said that, try 1600x1000 or 13??X7?? with the settings mentioned. If it works, let us know.
