Just wondering, does anyone else here play old NES, Genesis/Megadrvie, Atari etc. games on their computers? I don't see a lot of discussion about them anywhere.
Two of the best sites for Mac emulation news and software are Emulation.Net (http://www.emulation.net) and Richard Bannister's site (http://www.bannister.org). And for games, there seems to be millions of pages for the ROMs, but they're almost all crappy Geocities pages with nothing except "vote for me" popups and porn adverts.
Also, while I'm here, has anyone else had a problem with not being able to use their keyboards in Carbon emulators, like Generator and RockNES? I've sent two emails to Bannister about it, and I'm waiting for a reply.

i've been playing around with emulation a lot lately. pretty fun.
rocknes, snes98, mupen/sixtyforce mostly.
nes and snes roms are pretty easy to find.
http://www.qualityroms.com/
good selection and info about games
i got all my app info from emulation.net too. good site (strange navigation though).
n64 games are pretty hard to find since they are so large.
there is a good kdx server for all this stuff too. only place i found n64 roms.
i was playing mario bros and joust a lot. havent played those games in a very long time. dont even know what i did with my nintendo (probably in a closet at my parent's house somewhere).
i was looking for a good gamepad to use with these but wanted to find one that worked with both osx and linux and just couldnt find one i liked (linux is the biggest problem).
[remember of course that legally you should only use roms that you actually own the game for]

I am a big fan of emulators. Recently I located a ROM of my favorite shoot 'em up, R-Type as well as a few variations of Galaga. These games are great to play with USB game-pads since most emulators support them. It would be great if discs with ROMs could be purchased legitimately but I guess there are far too many copyright issues with such a scheme.

I do, I emulate using SNES9X (vers. 1.39) It is great, with the smoothing features they have it looks fantastic. I am a Super Mario World Junkie!
But i do agree that sometimes you can get to a place in a game and then it wont let you get any further, but hell, i just think 'yey, finished the game quicker!

Some companies have made the games public domain. Since most of the games are not sold anymore there isnt any possibility of them losing money by making them public.
Most simply turn a blind eye to the piracy sicne again it doesn't effect them. Seems to me theycould make a good deal of money if they supported emulation of obsolete consoles, but i guess they dont think its worth the effort.

I love emulators especially since I got rid of all those systems a long time ago. It's great being able to relive those great moments when those games and systems where considered cutting edge. There are a few I wish got better like the Turbografx-Pc engine (splatterhouse and R-type) or even had them (Atari Jaguar & Sega Saturn). The Jag had the best AVP game untill the Computer ver. came out and the Saturn had awesome games to bad both systems were just marketed really bad especially the Saturn since I think it was much better than the PSX( mind you I bought the Saturn when it was dead and bought the PSX the first day it came out) I still have all the games saved after my system died though I got rid of the PSX right after RE3.

i've been using SNES9X custom for the past few days and it blows the origional out of the water. check out http://emulation.net/ for the link. it uses opengl blitters for full screen gameplay, has lots of audio options, and can run compressed roms.
