Very nice.

As you can see from mine, I'm in the process of downloading Mandrake 9.1, how do you like it so far?

Some things are great, other's I'm kinda upset about. Mostly, I'm mad at Gnome, since it all of a sudden got slow. Anything gnome related takes forever to open, but I can't even work in KDE, so Gnome it is (yes, I know there are other WM's, but I don't really care for them). However, everything else is quite faster than 9.0, and I loved the install process. I just had to choose what language and packages to install, and then go grab a snack. They got rid of a lot of the redundancy (like the Mandrake menu, and then the WM's menu, with most of the same aps). All the software is updated too, of course, so the few quirks I had noticed about open office appear to be gone. Overall, I would still recomend it (although maybe not with gnome  )

what Gnome theme is that in the Mandrake Screenshot???

It's the new Mandrake Galaxy theme for the aps and "Stylish" for the icons, which I got at http://art.gnome.org I didn't like the trash bin it came with, though, so I got rid of it and put in the default gnome bin :)

Ah, there is so damn much to know and learn. I've been using it for several years now and I'm still learning, and I'll keep on doing it.

But there are a couple good sites to check out

www.flay.com - everything lightwave
www.cgtalk.com - the forums are fantastic and its a great resource for getting info, inspiration and tutorials

and www.newtek.com has some tutorials as well.

What do you want to do with lightwave? I could refer a couple good books depending on what you plan on doing.

works great for me! weather im running reason as a slave also, or just cubase, it runs just fine for me. the only thing that bugs me when running cubase and reason, is that its slows down a little bit, latency wise, but thats really my only gripe. i havent run the two together much yet, since all im really doing in cubase so far is non-realtime FX processing [and bouncing it back into reason] and mastering. its had its share of updates too, so it might have gotten better since the opinions youve heard were given.

if you attach the file and have macrumors host it, it cant be any bigger than about 100kb. most of the bigger screenshots are hosted elsewhere and placed using the IMG tag. a good place to host screengrabs is www.macsnaps.com

After conversion to Jpeg I usually open it in GraphicConverter and reduce the image size by half or so. This makes it easier to see on smaller monitors and makes it a smaller fie size. Once I have reduced the size I save it and select to option to limit it to 100KB. Be sure that you aren't saving it with a custome icon. Custome icons can easily take more memory then the file itself when you are dealing with 100KB files.

Please size down your desktop pics for easier viewing for those with smaller monitors. It will also cut down on the overal image size allowing higher quality jpegs.

I'm not Fatcow but the calendar and weather things on his desktop are called widgets and they work with a program called Konfabulator.

There are literally hundreds of different widgets that do all sorts of very cool floating things on the desktop for OSX. You will also want to be using a mac that is Quartz Extreme compatible.

You can get more info on Konfabulator at Konfabulator.com (http://www.konfabulator.com/)

Would you rather have a 450 MHz iMac with no more than 384 MB
RAM with a 16 MB video card, or a 2.4GHZ pentium 4 - 512 MB
333MHz DDR RAM, 40 GB HD, 40-10-40 CDRW, etc?

I chose the PC. Macs suck when you have $700 to spend on
a comp. I'm sorry, but I have never been more happy with any
other choice I've ever made. I could care less whether my PC
looks like crap. It runs perfectly, and a helluva lot faster than
a mac that costs twice as much. I will get a mac when I can
afford one that is worth its price.

Many mac users (especially on forums like these) say PCs suck
without giving them a fair chance. I love my PC just as much
as any mac I've ever owned, and it is a helluva lot cheaper than
any mac I've ever owned. The 970 better be REALLY good, or
I might get another PC. ;)

Here is my desktop again with two applications, a modified Lopster and Glade running in Apple X 11. The GTK+ Theme is a heavily modified 23 ounces of Glass.

High Quality version can be found here:

Well judging by his dock it's a Unix app, running in a window using X11 (http://www.apple.com/macosx/x11/)

I just did a quick google and it turns up this:

http://lopster.sourceforge.net/ A GTK napster client.

Can't help with background, anime is not my thing.

Lopster is a GTK+ 1.2 Opennapster Client, which is faster and has more features (multisource download) than the OSX native ones such as XNap. The GTK+ 1.2 theme you see on the app is a heavily modified 23 ounces of glass theme I made to integrate it into my brushed metal aqua GUI. Also the Lopster I use has a modified GUI and new pixmap icons since the ones that Lopster normally comes with are butt ugly. The Desktop Background is from the show Onegai Teacher and can be found at animewallpapers.com.

Ahmed

this may sound like a dumb question, but how do you all take those screenshots? do you have to use a special program or something like that?

apple-shift-3 for a full screen shot
apple-shift-4 for a selection box
apple-shift-4 then hold the cursor over a menu, file, or folder and hit space will only take a picture of the selected item.

Once you have taken the photo open it with Preview and export it as a jpeg image.

In Jaguar the Folder Applications/Utilities contains a little App called Grab, it allows you to make screenshots, timed screenshots and screen selections.

What the hell is that? That is the most hideous desktop I have seen in a long time. The pick is really blury and those icons. Wow what's with your menu bar I've never seen the whole bar so scrunched together. What size screen is this on?

Believe me, I wish I knew. I'd go and take a bunch of pictures of my own. I don't think Comstock wants to give up their secret. ;)
