will it shorten the life of my computer? If it is crunching data
during idle time, won't that be bad for the computer?

its alright your a noob, but usually when you see folding its accompanied by a link so i would jsut click on the link and read a little usually thats a bit faster than stratgin a thread. Just my advice, I hope youll start folding.

1. No, it will not shorten the life of your computer. Unless you hope this to be operating your current one 40 years from now. ;)
2. Why would using the part of the CPU that is not in use be bad? No it isn't bad.
Folding is good because you can cure disease and many other good causes. :D
