MATRIX 2 and 3: Did they replace Aaliyah with Monica Belucci?

I really haven't kept up with these films however much I liked the first one. If anyone knows what happened with Aaliyah's participation in Matrix 2, I would appreciate it. I went to Internet Movie Database to discover that she is no longer listed in the credits, but I was surprised to see that Monica Belucci was.

I think Belucci is wonderful, but I would have hoped that they would have also kept Aaliyah. Call me sentimental.

From what I can remember, they either hadn't shot her scenes yet, or hadn't completed all of her scenes (for both films) when she died. That made it impossible to keep her in the movies.

Aaliyah was supposed to have a minor (but significant) role in the Matrix sequels, but like another post mentioned, she passed away before any scenes were shot. Monica Bellucci is playing the role originally envisioned for her: the shady temptress Persephone.

I'm afraid you are all wrong. Aliyah's part was replaced by
Nona Gaye - Marvin Gaye's daughter. :). Monical Bellucci plays
a different part.

btw Nona's character is named Zee and 'Zee' is going to be
introduced in the first film (reloaded) and will have a larger
role in the 3rd film (revolutions). pic:

I don't remember seeing anyone in this film like Monica Bellucci's character. But then again, who knows? This could all be just a bunch of poop.
