Last weekend I went to the Metro in downtown Chicago to see The Sea and Cake. They are a rock/pop/jazz type band that is originally from the Chicago area, but now tours the country regularly.

Anyway, their keyboard player used a Mac for his setup (which was quite sophisticated, I might add). And he was looking at it throught the whole show. It seemed like an integral part of his music.

Also, a warmup act for the show performed with nothing but an iPod for backup. It was just two singers dressed in suits. In between songs one of them would pick out the next song on the iPod and strat the next number. Kinda weird music...but alright, I guess.

Do you guys have any Mac sightings relating to the music world? I have to think that more bands use computers on stage these days. Let me hear about it!

That's cool that your into the sea and the cake, a lot of electronic groups use macs like the whole Tigereat6 collective of Kid606, Cex, Lesser, Matmos uses them as well as autechre, and bjork is a big mac supporter, so are radiohead. I don't think bjork or radiohead use them onstage though.

Jake Wherry, a.k.a. The Herbaliser, uses Macs and Logic Audio Platinum, well, I know he used to when I knew him about 3 years ago.

originally spoken by "fred," the classic mac voice, in "Fitter, Happier," by Radiohead:
Fitter, happier, more productive,
comfortable,
not drinking too much,
regular exercise at the gym
(3 days a week),
getting on better with your associate employee contemporaries,
at ease,
eating well
(no more microwave dinners and saturated fats),
a patient better driver,
a safer car
(baby smiling in back seat),
sleeping well
(no bad dreams),
no paranoia,
careful to all animals
(never washing spiders down the plughole),
keep in contact with old friends
(enjoy a drink now and then),
will frequently check credit at (moral) bank (hole in the wall),
favors for favors,
fond but not in love,
charity standing orders,
on Sundays ring road supermarket
(no killing moths or putting boiling water on the ants),
car wash
(also on Sundays),
no longer afraid of the dark or midday shadows
nothing so ridiculously teenage and desperate,
nothing so childish - at a better pace,
slower and more calculated,
no chance of escape,
now self-employed,
concerned (but powerless),
an empowered and informed member of society
(pragmatism not idealism),
will not cry in public,
less chance of illness,
tires that grip in the wet
(shot of baby strapped in back seat),
a good memory,
still cries at a good film,
still kisses with saliva,
no longer empty and frantic like a cat tied to a stick,
that's driven into frozen winter ****
(the ability to laugh at weakness),
calm,
fitter,
healthier and more productive
a pig in a cage on antibiotics.
yeah. radiohead rules. if you put this into simpletext and start the speaking at the same time as the song, it syncs exactly. haha!

macs are all over the place in the music scene.

all those big shows big production things...you can be 100% sure there are macs backstage controlling all sorts of things. when i read articles about what people use onstage for big shows its usally a few powermacs and software like dp3 or logic.

many, many bands use macs but you may not see them onstage...its quite common to have the rigs under the stage( usually two identical systems running in sync...just in case one craps out). U2 has run a setup like this for eons.

re: radiohead... "hail to the thief" is amazing. just freakin amazing.

sorry if i am overly OT too.... "Hail to the Thief" is one of the best radiohead albums i have heard. they are going to come out with some utterly amazing stuff this summer when it hits stores. it's a beautiful, beautiful album. i can't stop listening to it, since i got it on thursday or so off some italian site. i'll be the first in line to buy it when it comes here to austin :D
