My favorite toy in the world went dark yesterday. It looks like the backlight on my iMac G4 LCD is gone. I can see an image on the screen but it is basically black. Not sure how much this will cost to repair...

So, if you are looking for parts or the bottom half of an iMac here you go:

iMac G4 1Ghz
17" LCD (may be dead or dead backlight)
1.25GB RAM
80GB HD
Superdrive

Until this happened this machine worked flawlessly. This has been my only computer for 3 years and has served me very well. I've made hundreds of DVDs of family movies and slideshows.

I'm not sure what it is worth now. Please send offers. Thanks.

Can't you just buy a BackLight Bulb or something? I saw one for a Pismo PB for $70 at www.wegenermedia.com so maybe they'll have some for iMac's if they use bulbs.

The backlight bulb is a 12" bulb in a 17" screen.

So if your really talented, you can pick up two dual white cold cathode sets from www.xoxide.com, hack the plastic off without breaking the bulb, wire them up to the inverter, and boom.

oh you know, just buy a $15 17" ccfl from mouser electronics...

could also try swapping out the invertor first, to see if that fixes it.
