recording sound on mac....

This might sound crazy but how can I record sound on my imac through the line in mic? Without using Toast. I've opened the sound icon from system pref. and have seen the volume change but where is it going? Help.

It seems that you need a program to record sound with. I use peak by bias (www.bias-inc.com) to record, but there are many free alternatives. Try checking the mac osx downloads section at apple, i believe that they have some free ones.

I just downloaded "audio in" a freeware app.
I'll see how it works. It says it saves to an AIFF file, I need a wave file to burn to CD.

I wrote because I didn't know if there was anything already on the mac for this.

You'll need an .aiff file to burn to CD as an audio disc, .wav files were originally Windoze files, .aiff files will allow your to burn Red book CD's via Toast or using Jam.

You can also use SD2 files from ProTols which are separate left and right stereo files. rather than the interleaved files.
