Apple needs to start making a "blade" type server. They are far superior to any other solution for web, mainframe, or cluster type servers. The small and low power G4 processor would be well suited for a blade server.

The best blade servers are made by RLXtechnologies (http://www.rlxtechnologies.com/home.html). The RLX 324 can up to 24 blades in just a 3U rack. You can stack up to 14 and have a cluster server with 336 processors.

MacCentral reports (http://maccentral.macworld.com/news/0202/22.cluster.php) Though researchers on the Human Genome Project would rather use Macs, Apple's computers are the wrong shape to make into high-power computer clusters, according to a Wired article (http://www.wired.com/news/medtech/0,1286,50454,00.html).
