I think you're not getting any bites because $500 is awfully low for a 1ghz+ notebook. Even the older iBook G4's go for $600-700 on eBay. You could find an iBook G3 for your price range, but those certainly aren't above 1ghz, and they probably don't run tiger (not positive though).

A pismo would suit them really well - runs tiger really well for everything but movie making and intense graphics/games.

The cheapest (almost) 1GHz Mac out there is the iBook G3 900MHz...you should be able to find one for $500 if you look around.

A PowerMac G4 1GHz (Quicksilver) will probably run about $600 at least, maybe more.

You can also get a used PowerMac G4 (Sawtooth, 350-500MHz) for around $200 and then get the 1GHz upgrade from OWC for $200 (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MEG42M1200/). That's probably the cheapest route, and with 1GB RAM it should run Tiger very well.

G5 towers are still well over $500 used - think more around $900+ for most systems. Of course you'll still have to buy a copy of Tiger...any used Mac you get will probably either have no OS or the OS it originally shipped with (OS 9, Jaguar, Panther).

I have a deal pending, but if it falls through I have a Dual processor 500MHz G4 (500MHz X2 = 1GHz!....:D ) that i'd offer for 500 exact (what the other guy offered) It has an airport card and currently is running tiger.

Well, it might be a little more than you are looking for, but i have a 1ghz iMac... 17in screen, 1 gig ram, 80 gig hd, apx, superdrive. i was thinking 650 700, but if you take the desktop route ( not to bash :p) but you are still looking for a screen. I take awesome care of it... no scratches etc. pm me if your'e interested.

Why not a macmini G4? they would surely go for less than $500. Add a cheap screen and your set. Oh and here in OZ a reasonable eMac goes for about $600 AU for a 1.25GHz so one of those might suit also.
