OK, I mentioned this in another thread, but I figured I'd throw it out for everyone...

I work for a non-profit in MI, our main focus is on environmental conservation and education. We've been around for 70 years, publish two magazines (one for elementary aged kids and one for adults) and a PBS show. We also run a summer camp for kids aged 9-15, and a traveling educational program where we bring animals (birds of prey, wetland creatures, and just other interesting MI native critters) to schools and libraries around the state.

I'm the membership coordinator as well as resident IT guy. I'm taking over our website shortly, as soon as the contractors/marketing group who are designing the new one finish the "core" site + templates. I'd like to do this with a Mac (we all know how having the right machine for the job around can improve both productivity and the end product), but we simply can't afford to buy one this year (non-profit in a tanking Michigan economy). The camp has it's own site, which stinks and wasn't part of the site redesign, so I'll be building it a new one from scratch as well.

Also, our TV show is entirely produced on a couple of old single-CPU PM 400mz G4 (uses Media Pro 100 in OS 9, I believe). They'd like move to OSX/FCP, but well, see above.

So, here's the wishlist:

Web design system: pretty much anything that can run 10.4 would be fine. That means 512mb+ of RAM is the benchmark... a G4 eMac, a G4 iMac, a G4 PM or mini (we have plenty of spare monitors, I'll donate the USB keyboard and mouse) would all fit nicely. A Core Solo mini would be, how can I say this, the cat's meow? I could repurpose my Dell desktop that way so we could finally have a hot swappable spare computer (if you're an IT guy you know how nice it can be to not have to fix a computer on the spot or someone else can't do thier job)!

TV show editing: a higher end G4 PowerMac or a low end G5 PM would work verywell.

Anything else would be great and BE USED. We have a magazine publishing staff who could use a Mac or two, interns who just don't have anything at all to work on without displacing a full time staffer (well, we have one "open" machine, but since it's an election year it's in full time usage for another month or so). Harddrives, RAM (PC133 modules), ANY size LCD, etc.

What YOU get out of it: a tax deduction for your claimed value of the donation (we can't legally assign value to donated merchandise). If you are interested in hunting, fishing, or just general outdoor activities you will also get a year subscription to our magazine, Michigan Out of Doors.

Lastly, there is SOME money floating around in the budget for some new hardware for the TV show. Not enough to really do anything with, though. If someone was interested in selling us, for example, a $2000 computer for $1000, there would be a $1000 donation being made, for which you would receive a deduction.

I don't expect a whole lot of offers here, but it can't hurt to ask, especially towards the end of the year when I know everyone is thinking not only about giving but also about getting some good deductions for their taxes! :)

Very worthy cause.

I've got a few things in the parts arena - I'll PM you rather than bore everyone else :) .
