Contact the authorities and submit fraud reports.

and who are the authorities?

Usually the police, but in my neighborhood it's me and "Mr. Breakface", my baseball bat.
I did not come up with Mr. Breakface, btw. It's from some online comic.

There are no rules...it's completely up to the parties involved. If you don't have a reasonable level of trust in the person, you shouldn't be doing the trade.

If I did trust the person, I would just cross-ship...everybody gets to their respective mail drop as soon as is conveniently possible.

i usually ask for ebay references and then contact the person using the ebay messaging system just to confirm that they are who they say they are. (otherwise, i can just pick a random ebay id with a high feedback rating and claim that it is mine).

if it is high enogh for my liking, then i will cross ship

It's also common practice that someone who is more trusted on the site (ie: has done a lot more transactions, has more references, has been there longer, etc) would get their item first, and then would ship to the other person.

I've also heard of using a mod or someone highly trusted as a third party.. ie: you both ship to that person, and he/she then forwards the stuff on once he's gotten both items. Costs more in shipping, though.

I've traded once on the forums here, and we both shipped our items at the same time. Turned out to be a very pleasant transaction. Thanks, dan-o-mac! (:

who or what decides who ships first? It varies from trade to trade, but my basic rule is this:

If we both have a good background of feedback, send at the same time.

If you have **** feedback, you send first.

If I have **** feedback, I send first.

Also, typically, if I post a list of items for sale and you offer a trade instead, you will send first. Once I get the trade and am happy w/ it, I'll send the item you want. Otherwise, I'll send your item back to you.

Why doesn't MacRumors implement iTrader (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=102965) -- which is a sale/trade feedback system for vBulletin?

Well heatware has been around for a long time and is pretty reliable. Plus you can email the person from within heatware. EBay really is not that great.

it kinda depends on the situation and the people that are involved. Chrispy and I didn't know of each other at all and i posted i wanted to sell my 12inch powerbook. Well i was in the market for my dell 700m in my sig.....so i just asked him if he wanted to buy it from dell and have it shipped to my house. As soon as I got it I shipped the PB to him. Probably the best transaction i've had yet. It worked out well....just a matter of trust, which is very hard over the internet.....
