I'm looking for various old school PC games that were built for Windows 95 to XP. Looking for ones which have max specs on anything that's with a 8 MB or 16 MB requirement on video card.
Collecting them is hard. In fact I'm especially looking for ones that have full install without disc needed to play. Thanks!

Starcraft and Diablo II and pretty much every game made by Blizzard are great. There a NoCD cracks that are widely available. Some folks may be morally opposed to using these cracks but since I have legally bought the game and I don't want to swap CD's I don't lose any sleep over it.

The original Half-life would probably run on that type of system.
System Requirements (http://www.ultimate-gamer.com/halflife/hl.htm)
That was one of the things that made HL so great, was that it could play on a ton of different configurations. (Maybe not very pretty, but play nonetheless).

Heh, this is a little bit outside of your range, but the 2 "Ultima Underworld" titles from 1992 and 1993 were so far ahead of their time. I think they only play under DOS, though. If you haven't heard of them: They're first-person 3-D role-playing game a la "World of Warcraft". No multiplayer obviously, though. To this day this the two Ultima Underworld my favorite single-player role-playing games. The gameplay and interface were amazingly elegant. You could actually control *everything* with your mouse (the closer the arrow-shaped mouse cursor was near the edge the faster you ran). And it wasn't just hacking and slashing, there were also a fair amount of puzzles, etc. to solve.

starcraft was amazing. So was Warcraft.
Another one is great, Return to Castle Wolfenstein.
One which is free and a great game it it works on your computer is RTCW: Enemy Territory.
Enemy Territory is a free game. so no need to go search for it.

I did like Max Payne 1 but I really can't get into it now. Sim City 3000 was probably my favourite, or Worms Armageddon. Mostly stuck with Doom and Duke 3D through them years.

Sweet, looks like I am getting a good start to having the chance to dig some gems from the past. I miss the gaming from those days.

Might be pushing the system requirements but I LOVED Freelancer. Its one of the only things I truely miss on PCs. Warcraft II(not III) I also fell in love with.

My top three games of 1995-2003 are as follows:
3.Return to Castle Wolfenstein (if I remember correctly the minimum specs are 500MHZ processor, 128 MB RAM, and 16MB video card)
2.Half-Life (I think it should run on a 166 MHZ, 64MB RAM, 16MB video card)
and number one goes to...
Warcraft 2 (it will run on a 486 based machine, with 8/16MB RAM, and basically a 1/2 MB video card will do, I spent so much time playing that game it ain't even funny, it is the most played game of my lifetime :D )

Starcraft and Diablo HANDS DOWN for me. Soooooo many nights playing that over a "direct cable connect" network in Win 95 and then 98 when I got that. Oh the memories haha.

Favourite:
Strategy:
Starcraft (If this is not on your list, you have a problem, please go seek help)
Homeworld (good old homeworld....)
Total War Series (got to love a few thousand troops chopping each other)
FPS
HL: CounterStrike
Notice that AOE is not in the list. I seriously wonder how can anyone say that AOE is the best game ever. It is not a bad game, maybe average at best. All the unites is freaken the same (in aoe2 you get 1 special unit per faction..that's it!)! And you don't get huge battles like totalwar!

Original Unreal (and Unreal Tournament)
Homeworld original (better than 2 in my opinion)

damn this thread is a trip down memory lane...
Phantasmagoria
Freaked the hell out of me when my friends and I played it in college late at night. I ended up scrounging around the internet to pick up a used copy just for nostalgic sake. The music was well done too and the protagonist was cute as hell.
Dune II
Best music in a video game for its time (and one of the best of all time IMHO): Spice Opera (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dune:_Spice_Opera)
Wing Commander IV: The price of Freedom
Mark Hamill + Back to the future's Biff + Malcolm McDowell + a porn star = one entertaining "movie" video game.
Privateer 2: The Darkening
This is the first time I ever saw Clive Owen. To me, he will always be Lev Arris.

Counterstrike Classic would be my fav for that time period. I still play it today but I remember when I use to play that game on a 300 mhz celeron with 64 MB of ram and a cheap 16mb 3dfx voodoo banshee and performing great!
The Zork games were also pretty fun as well.
