I'd like to hear the comparisons. like when the DS outsold the PSP in its own launch week etc. Especially in Japan. I mean the DS Lite queue anyone!?

in japan it's always kinda funny with launches since all the people head to the big huge stores first and camp out in large queues while around a few corners another stores has absolutely zero people waiting
since everybody assumes that the big stores will have most stock available they all go there and end up with not enough stock
on kotaku.com it's quite nice to watch... the store he went had like only a handful of people buying one while in another part of the town hundreds of people where waiting

in america the queues spread more over the smaller stores around launch

Figured it's better not starting a topic about this. It'd probably get shot to pieces!

Live (UK Magazine) is out today and they have a feature about the PS3, rather much like they had a feature about the Wii months back. God knows about the 360 one, it seems so long ago since that had the pre-launch hype!
In a nutshell they sounded impressed but ended with "Maybe if they could match Live it would be worth spending £450 on one". They reviewed games, half of which said "had tired gameplay" (Genji, Virtua fighter etc) but did sound optimistic about LAIR and RfoM.

Interestingly they raved non-stop about the Wii, saying the only bad thing was lack of HD support, but from what they played "It simply doesn't matter".

This is from a magazine aimed at people with money and a desire for style too. Today they talked about going to a shooting party with a £25k rifle after all.
The UK. It's going to be a very tough ride for the PS3 here. Very tough indeed.

Take it you haven't heard the latest? They say they won't be here till after March now. Sony have yet to give an official launch date for Europe. Put it this way, instead of getting a PS3 4 months after launch you might have enough by the time it comes out ;)

So true. Popular/Big stores will have the large queues and many times run out of the product. Where as a smaller store may have plenty of product with few customers.

I bet this is exactly what happened. I was surprised to see this article from IGN which contradicts just about every PS3-Japan-launch article I have read.
