Just wanted to see what kind of speakers people prefer to plug into their beloved macs. Am running Promedia's 2.1 with a new SWS subwoofer(yeah I'm a bass junkie and hoping to add a few more of em') Any idea when Apple's gonna support multiple channels?

(for the people who know the system i'm talking about, i have it with the rectangle version black speakers, not the in-roof speakers)

At home, we use Bose media mate speakers for our iMac. At work its Apple pro speakers and eMac built in speakers.
Needless to say the bose speakers sound worlds better.

Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's - simply stunning. The stereo system in our studio has become redundant since the Klipsch arrived.

Built in speakers on my iMac DV with an iSub...Bose Media Mates on my iBook at school. I want to get a cable or a wireless way to run my iMacs sound output to my 500W RCA home theatre system.

3 or so years ago I bought a set of Bose Acoustimass Media speakers - great stuff, solid, and still going great.

Right now, just a JVC bookshelf system attached to my PB.
Once I get a desktop I'm grabbing some Kilpsches. I had the original 4.1s on my PC and they were amazing.

Yamaha YST speakers with a sub-woofer. Pretty darn loud. You should hear this thing when I play Medal of Honor. I should play Wagner in the background with it. :D

Logitech Z-560's 4.1. these things sound suprizingly good for being $180 and only having one driver in the satellites. only complaint i have is that you cant get the bass all the way down on the hardware bass control... not suprizing since the sub has 188watts continuous power [400w cont. power total].

A set of the Bose computer cubes with sub. Sounds really nice in that diffuse Bose everywhere sound sort of way, but much better than some of the other computer specific set-ups I've listened to. But music on the computer just isn't my thing when there are really nice sound systems to listen to. Now, the paradigm studio 40s downstairs, sitting in the stereo field at just the right place - that's what the ears crave.

I got a set of Creative Labs 5.1 speakers for $99 at Fry's (they went with my sound card for my PC) and I hook up my iBook to the front three (yes, three) most of the time.

i use the cheapo altec lansings that came with the imac, they're pretty ugly, the first translucent speakers AL made i think... anyway they might be ugly but the sound rivals my home theatre system (granted not 5.1 but still), and i don't think i've ever turned the subwoofer all the way up... would probably collapse walls.

You mean something like this?
GameEZ (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?DEPA=&submit=Go&description=N82E16882333002)
You should be able to connect a 3.5mm to RCA adapter cable (Apple sells one for $7) to it. Not sure how well it works, but Newegg's pretty good as far as shipping and customer service. There are more expensive solutions.

Ive got a pair of Dynaudio BM6a studio nearfield monitors, 150w self-powered pro speakers. I take my audio very seriously, output at home via M-box, otherwise via HD-196 to Dynaudio M1's.
Dynaudio rock.

Boston Acoustics with 2 satellites and a sub (I don't know the model). iSticks. Event Project Studio 8's (bi-amped, as we don't want to muddy the sound with an external amp, do we?)

Cerwin Vegas (not sure of the model). Nice bass extension and tone, especially compared to computer speakers. Not to rag on computer speakers, though. I have serious lust for the SoundSticks. :p

H/K Soundsticks.
but for the worst reasons - the old el-cheapos didn't look good against the 23" cinema display, so I needed something that visually matched :D :D
They sound okay though.

Harman/Kardon Soundsticks w/the subwoofer.... AWESOME sound - not insanely loud, but very good tone...

HK Soundsticks for the powermac, and what i've been planning on for months has finally come true, iTunes4 sends music up wirelessly to my iBook which is connected to my killer home theater. It's so killer i won't get into it. A lot of Mirage and Denon, i'll leave it at that.

how are you connecting these to your mac? you must have a SB card. My boss lets me use his at work, but the lowly BW G3 has stock audio out.
how much was your card. i might get one just to run them at work.
At home on my PB I use HK Soundsticks (very nice except a little tingy and no low end). I also use Sennheiser eh2270's ($70), the best headphones i've owned -- even better than my previous $200 Sennheiser's. They're great for drowning out co-workers, and for monitoring audible bass (and even some sub-bass -- these things shake my brain!)

I do a lot of pro audio work so I use crappy Altec Lansing speakers for gaming (with a giant subwoofer, of course) and plug in REALLY good Sennheiser headphones for anything important.

I got a set of Acoustic Research Performance Series PS2262 Towers wired to a Technics DX750 Dolby Digital Receiver, and a set of Sennheiser HD495 headphones and a set of Beyerdynamic headphones.
I'm critical of my musical needs without spending too much $$$.

wow, i'm jealous of the dynaudio person - i'm using monsoon pc speakers.
when i'm working on music, i use AKG K240 headphones. they are extremely comfortable over long periods of time and they sound great.

For right now, just the pro speakers. They work OK and i don't see any reason in changing them.

Generally just a pair of Sony monitoring headphones for my iBook, if not then the it gets plugged into my beast of a hifi (classic b&o speakers, schwing!)
harman kardon makes for an interesting spoonerism...
...or am i just being immature?
