Hey guys,

I was wonder what you guys think a good offer would be for a New, sealed in box, Toshiba Satellite laptop. The specs of the machine are as follows:

Intel Celeron M processor 420 with 533 FSB
1MB L2 cache
1.6Ghz CPU
512mb 4200 DDR2 SDRAM...expandable to 2Gb.
15.4" WXGA LCD with 1280x800 widescreen resolution
60Gb SATA 5400rpm HD
PCMCIA slots
8x DVD-ROM; 24x24x24 CD-RW
ATI Mobility Radeon X200M
2 USB 2.0
Integrated Atheros wireless LAN
10/100 Base TX Ethernet LAN
Built in modem
Windows XP Home Edition
All discs included being that its sealed in its box and brand new

Just curious to know how much I can look to get for it. Also, if you had a choice between keeping this Toshiba Satellite or a 600mhz G3 iBook, which machine would be best off to keep? Better power and usage? Don't know how that CPU is vs a G3. Thanks

Not too much, since its a Celeron M, but if your looking to trade, I have a Powermac G4 466 and a Powermac G3 400 I could trade for it. I'm looking for a new PC laptop, since mine went boom :(, and I have a Pentium M sitting around that my friend gave me, as he decided to jump on his bed... with his laptop on it. x.x'

Let me know if your interested and for more specs.

Oh, and I'd rather have an iBook if I were you. :D

The machine says: Toshiba Satellite Celeron M 420, model L35-S2151

I'd take pix, but I don't have a digicam at the moment. I'll be picking up a Casio ExSlim this weekend, so I can take pictures then.

The reason I'm asking for opinions is because I need a laptop machine for teaching, but my iBook 600 is a pain due to its inability to playback streaming video even if its fully loaded. It "stutters." I also want to know if a Celeron M is faster than a G3 in processing power. All i require is email, word processing, and websurfing (especially with streaming video going smoothly).

Its a 15.4 lappy, but i like the portability of a 12". Regardless, i know i can keep only one. If the celeron IS better than this iBook 600mhz G3, then I might as well keep this newer one and get rid of the ibook. So any constructive opinions would help. Thanks guys!

1.6 GHZ Celeron M is definately faster at most computing tasks than a 600MHZ G3. Actually I have bough a similar system (mine is a 1.7GHZ Celeron M with a DVD recorder) about 6 months ago for $449 (after $300 in rebates from Toshiba and Circuit City) and added 1GB of memory (about $90 from newegg.com) and it is definately more than adequate for basic computing tasks such as word processing, internet, and even light gaming such as Warcraft3 or even Half-Life2 (medium settings, no AA). And oh yeah, streaming video from the internet usually has more to do with your internet connection than actual processor speed (not talking about HD video though), but any computer with 1GHZ processor and 512 MB RAM should be able to playback MPEG, MOV, or DIVX without much of a hassle.

Yeah, the 1.6Ghz celeron M is definitely a better/faster machine, but then again it's not a mac ;). How did you get it / how much did you spend? Because I would probably just keep it and sell the ibook, even though it's not a mac, then in the future pick up a speedier mac. The reason the celeron M is sooo much better then previous celerons is because it's based off of Pentium M which in turn is based off P3 mobile, so the celeron Ms are actually very capable.

Oh, also, another thing to keep in mind, I had this old Luggable Toshiba Satellite laptop (2.8Ghz non-mobile celeron etc) and it seemed cheaply built and that WAS slow. Just something to keep in mind, make sure this is nice and light and read some reviews :)

Confirmed. So perhaps an offer of $200 is out of the question, huh ? :)

Yeah i just saw. Ehh, I might as well just keep it being that its faster than the iBook. I'll just sell the iBook here in a couple days. BTW, it was an Xmas gift n i wanted to see what its worth cuz I'd prefer to have a 1Ghz Alumbook or the 1.25.

Anyways, this thread can be locked and thrown away. Thanks guys.

yeah and I just wanted to let you know, that laptop is most definitely worth 500+ on a place like eBay. I wouldn't be telling you this if I wanted it ;). The thing is, very few people are able to snag the laptops at that price, so eBay is still a sellers market. Whatever you decide to do, good luck!

This laptop is only being made for Black Friday from what I was told, after Black Friday, Best Buy will not be carrying it in any of their stores. Our computers say the discontinue date is 11/26/2006.
