I just got this email from the Apple store.
Is this a black iPod, or am I trippin?
Look at the buttons also, they're red!!

it's just the lighting. it's turned down so you can see the backlit display and buttons.

peace.

You are tripping

that is just the lighting as you can clearly see. Its showing how the buttons are backlite.

The buttons glow so you can see the iPod in the dark if that explaines it a bit more clearly.

Do you think its easy to change the color of the back lighting on the buttons? I think blue would be a better color than red.

Is it an actual light or the colored plastic behind those touch sensitive buttons?

There will be plenty of reports Friday night as hordes of us rabid Apple fans invade the stores...myself included. Stay tuned....:)

Sorry buddy, but it's sort of like dating. Sometimes they just don't match, but that doesn't mean it isn't worth spending the money on.

Blue kills your night vision. The choice of red, while not trendy, is better.

Yes, it is black but only in the dark. ;)

By the way, after the 17" PowerBook this is the second Apple product to feature back-lighting. I would like to see this feature implemented in future desktop keyboards as well.

Why are most backlights light blue instead of pink? Just following convention from the original "Indiglo" watches?

man, i cant believe how many people are thinking it will be black. my friend came up to me in excitment telling me this. i thought it would be obvious that the lights are turned off but i guess not.

I am sorry Dave, I cannot play that track.

Most backlights are blue because of a lot of scientific research done on what colors would be: visible to the user, and the most visually appealing to the largest cross section of consumers. Indiglo-blue won by a landslide.

at first glance i thought it was a black iPod, the lighting is very good. i would love to see an iPod that looks like that though, with a kind of black rubberised look to it, very slick. it could of course look extremely tacky but the way Apple do things, it wouldn't be a problem.

Brandon, let me get this straight. You saw an iMac in that picture? Let me elaborate.

iMac= computer with flat panel LCD screen, and a dome-like sturcture at the bottom.

iPod= small, rectangular MP3 player, with a grayscale screen. Get the picture?

You are, however, right that the shadows are deceiving.
