Don't know if you've heard it, and I probably should post this in here, but did you try smacking the back of it against the palm of your hand really hard? I've recovered tons of weird functioning iPods this way, and if you doubt it, do a google search!

i usually throw mine at a wall or drop it on the ground. it almost always works.

Didn't Apple suggest a similar fix for Apple ]['s that were malfunctioning a few dcades back?

Good to hear of another repaired iPod. It gets you to wondering how many people banged their iPods against a table in frustration and fixed it.
