View Full Version : No More Games on the Xbox?

I'm posting this thread for all the Xbox owners out there.
I 'acquired' one about a year ago and I was very happy. I like fps and the design of the joypad suited me well but recently I'm feeling like a fool for buying into the Xbox world. Microsoft have almost stopped making games and are putting all their efforts into the Xbox 360. Which is great if you have a large HD flat-screen TV and tons of money for games. I think the Xbox still has life in it but I'm definitely in the minority.
So the question is, do I try to find Xbox games or succumb to the siren's call of the 360?:)

Plenty of used Xbox games out there for you to play if you want to.

Oh, and it's "I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tännhauser Gate." ;)

Exactly...My suggestion is that right now, while everyone is upgrading, go splurge on all the inexpensive copies of games for XBox that you wanted to play but did not / had not. You can always get an upgraded console later, and those games are cheap now. Who knows...by then, you might have an HDTV. ;) I didn't intend to buy one, and yet I've got one now.

Nice ideas guys. Thanks. I'll try out the used games section... And thanks clayj for the correction. The spirit is strong but the flesh is weak.

I just went to EB Games and bought 3 used games (you get the 3rd one free) and may go back for some more. Oh, and they had some for as low as $2 that I might get (Max Payne 2 for one). I love all of these cheap games due to the 360's release.

get KOTOR its not a fps but possibly the best console rpg I have ever playedand there if you have live there is also an addon pack. Jade Empire was fun as well but a little short but the combat engine was second to none. ghost recon 2 on the xbox was fun graw not as good as on the 360. BTW I have a 360 and have it connected to a 6 year old 32" flattube tv and I can't tell the difference from coming from a 55" dlp

Hang on a little bit longer.
I bought the 360 a couple of days ago.
Considering the 360 has been out for a year, there isn't a lot of a-class titles out yet.

Yes - Gears of War rocks, but otherwise it's pretty bleak.

There are tons of good games for the Xbox still. Unless you're a hardcore gamer it could keep you amused for a couple more years at least.

It's good to hear all the positive advice. One of the problems is that over here in the UK, it's getting harder and harder to find any new Xbox games. You have to really look for them. All the cool titles are only being released on the 36n. I suppose I was being a bit of a game snob, only wanting the new cool games and turning my nose up at the 2nd hand games.
I'm proud to say I have learned my lesson and I will enjoy the Xbox, to the max.

Even this past year I beleive any new releases the xbox did have were multiplatform and that only entails I think a handful...everything is shifting toward the 360. And there is nothing wrong in wanting something new.

What he said! It gave new life to my Xbox.

Buy an Xbox. Halo, Panzer Dragoon, GTA series and have an open-ended world of fun. I never funded too much into my original Xbox but there are some good quality games out there.

What? What? They're fun. Sheesh.I just think the Burger King games are the next step in how our games are permeated with advertising. Here you have an entire game which is basically a huge ad for BK.

What's next? KFC's "Catch the Chicken", where you chase chickens around the farmyard and then boil them in hot water until they die? Or maybe Taco Bell's "Yo Quiero PS3", where someone tries to get you to trade your PS3 for a "lifetime" supply of Taco Bell food? :p

MicroMachines?
Trolls?
Superfrog? You drank Lucozade to give you health.

To a lesser extent - Crash Test Dummies, Pokemon?

Might revisit Halo and Brothers in Arms, now I know that the best games for the Xbox have come and gone.
But in all serious, shame on Microsoft for abandoning the Xbox to the games console wasteland. I don't mind checking out old 'classics' but I also wanted the "new hotness".
'Old classic' :p v "New hotness"

Brothers in arms is what I sorely miss on my xbox360 right now - I actually want to shoot some nazis and I refuse accept calloduty as a decent game(I played it - I hate it). I was hoping for it to be added to the backward compatibility list a couple weeks ago but oh well I guess I wait till Hell's Highway and now back to vegas and startrek legacy

Modded XBox + XBMC is the way to go. I download pretty much all the TV shows I watch, ftp them over to the XBox, and enjoy them on the main TV. There's a tons of plugins as well that enhance the base functionality even more.
They recently released version 2.0 of XBMC, with even more features and screens.

As for games, I got these used, for <$10 each, and still have to play through some of them:

KOTOR
Jade Empire
Half-life 2
Fusion Frenzy (nice party game)
Halo 2
BG: Dark Alliance II
Fable: The Lost Chapters
Forza

Is Orta the only Panzer game for XBox? It's more like PD and PD Zwei than it is like PDS, right? :(

I've no idea! It's my first Panzer game, always admired it from afar but just never got it before.

A 360 sequel would be nice :D

I'm just off out to find me some classic gaming.;) Guess I'm abit pissed off that I always seem to be 2 steps behind everyone when it comes to gaming. thought getting an Xbox would at least allow me to the latest games, maybe not on the newest console, but still a version of it.
I've still got my old 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System, in it's original box, and games. Duck Hunt et al.:)

My X-Box was largely gathering dust connected to my 50" TV downstairs for a variety of reasons, so I took it upstairs and connected it to my 24" monitor / home theater system that is hooked to my Mac Pro. Since then, I've gone to www.gamespot.com and printed out a list of the most highly rated X-Box titles and I've begun to collect them from the bargain bins and used game shelves.

I'm having a bit of an X-Box renaissance as a result; I'm playing KOTOR and Prince of Persia: SOT presently and both are great. Also Tiger Woods. Long live last-gen consoles!

I have a friend with two of them (rocket bike and bumper cars), and got him the third for Christmas. Yeah, after I bought the game I noticed why he didn't buy the third - it is just advertising (sneak up to people and give them burgers). Anyway, the bumper cars and rocket bike aren't bad. Other than some of the BK characters (the chicken, king) you don't really notice that it is an ad and it is a lot of fun when you have three or four people playing and you are tired of Halo.

Hello everyone. I hope you all had a fun and safe new years eve.
I went out and got Halo for £7.99 at Blockbusters and I am very pleased.
(There's a very attractive woman, in a skintight silver wetsuit, free-diving on BBC2.) I thought I would take a break from playing and send this post.
Blockbusters also had GoW and RB6V on 360 for £27.99 but I stick to the Xbox games.:)

yeah best upgrade to the 360, the xbox is dead because it isn't making MS money anymore so they're not gonna devote more time to it. Plus it'll cannabalize their 360 sales.

Hello everybody. So I got Halo and I am loving it. I always shied away from that game because I thought it was like Half Life, creatures jumping out at you in the dark, but it is not. Lots of gunplay and headshots.

My first 3 Xbox360 games were those Burger King games. I was quite anxious to get them if you can believe it (I like the King character). The games aren't bad, but could have been a lot more fun if they just tweaked certain things here and there. I mean for $2.50 a game it's worth it.

And yeah I have to admit to my weakness. After playing Sneak King for an hour I was craving a Whopper sandwich bigtime. So I made my own burger instead, I just wish I had some Grade D meat lying around because it just isn't the same without it..

You can still get plenty of life out of your xbox. I suggest...

Halo
Halo 2
Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30
Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood
Half-Life 2

Just some titles off the top of my head. However be warned, getting into the Halo series make end up resulting in you buying a 360 for Halo 3. I bought Halo for my Mac a few years back, and ended getting an Xbox for Halo 2, which sucked me into the Xbox entirely. Chain reaction :D

Yeah, I know the xbox is dead. I'm just trying to flog a dead horse.
I've been downloading Halo 3 trailers and info. It looks great and I am quite interested in it.
The problem is not the Xbox 360, the problem is the flatscreen HDTV you need to view the games at it's optimum effiency. I have seen a 360 connected to a HDTV and it is fantastic.:)
I just didn't realise how dead the xbox was. I never seem to get the whole games console thing right. Thanx for listening.:D

No you're doing it dead right. I always wait until systems are dead. People are unloading them for cheap as they're not "retro" yet....so you can get things for so little cash...i remember getting my Dreamcast with 10 games for 40 bucks at a Pawn shop while everyone else was moving on to the Xbox and PS2 and 50 dollar games :)

Did anyone mention Lego Star Wars? Fun game, although mine was very glitchy. I don't think the second one came out on xbox, but I go it on psp and it was even more fun (plus no glitches). The Burnout series is also great, the first 2 (or 3) have dated graphics, but 4 had great graphics!
Oh, and I got sneak king, it is glitchy and the gameplay is slow, but it is a little entertaining.

Lego StarWars 2 did come for the xbox but you reaalllyy had to look for it.
It was also priced very high for some reason. I didn't get in the end. :(
