I finally did it!
I graduated from Illinios Wesleyan University yesterday with a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree. My focuses are in Graphic Design and Art History, plus almost one in Sculpture, and I have a minor in Business Adminstration with a focus in Marketing.
Unfortunately the ceremony was moved inside due to weather, but it was still pretty good. Little long, and focused on the BA (Business Major), but who cares? I AM DONE!
Now time to find a job if I don't end up going to Spain for a month.
p.s. - I will be accepting donations to the poor-ass-college-grad-with-no-job fund.

Congratulations.
Now, is it me or do college degrees seem more and more like just worthless pieces of parchment these days?

No, it's not just you. It seems that too many people, who are not necessarily worthy of being at university, are doing degrees, lowering the value of that 'piece of parchment'. It's a shame, because there's little that the top students can do to differentiate themselves from your average joe.
All the same, congrats idkew. This isn't meant against you in any way.

i definitly understand. i am strongly thinking about graduate school for an MBA or a Law degree to help differentiate myself from the crowd a little more.
Plus (i know this will offend some), Illinios Wesleyan is a pretty tough school. I have taken 4 courses from the U of Iowa, and they were an absolute joke compared to my easiest course at Wesleyan. I think it has prepaired me well, but it cost a ton of money to do that. My point being that these universities are flooding the market becuase they set their standards so low. I don't believe everyone has the right to a college degree, but it seems that many state schools do, as long as you pay them that is. You have to work for it, not just pay for it.

That is what grad school is for, at least until it becomes overcrowded and devalued.
Congrats. Those of us at UC Davis still have over another month.

Now get off that formal graduation attire, relax, and enjoy your free time away from whatever job you receive.

The only college I have any real respect for is M.I.T.. There is no faking it there. I think brilliance is the standard there.
I'm not too proud to say that I'm not smart enough to go there either.

I'm graduating college as a CS major at California State University, Los Angeles in '05 if everything goes well. I still have a little over two years ahead of me, for those of you who didn't go beyond Math 101. ;):p
Just kidding.
Congratulations to all you grads, both high school and college, and I hope you have luck finding jobs or getting into graduate school (or both!).

I remember when I graduated from UCLA way back when. I couldn't believe it. The day it hit me the hardest was the Monday right afterwards: I came back to my apartment and realized that I didn't have any more homework to do for that night! I didn't have an excuse for not having a social life!!!
I was stunned!
I was amazed!
I was a nerd! (Okay, still am! :D)
I was... I was... well...
I got down on my hands and knees near tears, and swore: I'd never, ever go back to school ever again!!! I would NEVER do homework for the rest of my natural/unnatural life!!!
...
Three years later, entering graduate school... ;D
P.S. By the way, wdlove, was that a mistake when you said:
"Your hole life lies out before you..." did you mean hole? As in idkew's life is a big friggin' hole? (Pit of despair?) or "whole" life as in, well, whole? :D

when i was entering college, i swore that when i finished, i would also never go to a single class again
well, since graduating in 92, then 94, that's all i have done since then...gone to class...i am in a java class right now
but when you finish your college path, classes no longer become an issue about grades, but about learning
this may sound nuts to the younger posters here, but when you finish your path with a high school diploma or college degree, you will likely see school after that as a hobby...and as fun
one third of the 8,000-10,000 students at the local junior college where i constantly attend (23 years now) have a bachelor's degree or higher...some of the students have a PhD...and all those students are not going to junior college for their AA or AS degrees...they are going because it is fun and because the school is simply there
when asked why mountaineers climb mountains, the most common answer you will hear is, "because it's there"
