I have a G4 500Mhz Server (Graphite) that I want to sell. This machine was bought as a server, but I use it at home at the moment. The specs are:

G4 500Mhz Sawtooth (AGP)
768MB of RAM
Radeon Mac Edition (32MB DDR)
35GB Hard Drive
Apple DVD Drive (or 52x burner)
5 Port Extra Ethernet Card
Keyboard and Mouse

Extras:
Radeon 8500 Mac Edition (add 140)
Handspring Visor Deluxe Ice Blue w/ gamepack and cradle (add 50)
18GB SCSI Drive w/ ATTO SCSI Card (add 75 dollars)
ATA 66 Controller Card (add 50 dollars)
80GB IBM Hard Drive (add 75 dollars)

I would trade this machine for an iBook 800 or better. Let me know!

BTW- All you people that say the iBook is worth way more then my G4 are wrong. My brother just sold a G4 similar to mine, but his had an extra 512 RAM and a faster Controller Card, and he got 1100 dollars (he had no SCSI drive, visor, or muultiple HD).

Can your iBook run UT2K3 good? Does it get 100+ FPS in quake? I max at about 120FPS. I think the G4 doesn't just have more capacity, but more speed.

And, I don't think your iBook has a superdrive...

AND, thanks for the offer, errr...the pointless post :o

No way that machine is worth 1100. I'd say closer to 700-800. MAYBE 900, but that's pushing it. Your brother screwed somebody over....that's why he got 1100 out of it.

Actually, think...think hard....

He sold the machine for like 800 dollars with 1GB of RAM. And that is WELL worth the price. Throw another 600 dollars in there, and you have a Dual 1.25GHz machine, JUST AS FAST as the new 1.25s, but for a LOT more, and it has 4x the RAM.

He sold the Radeon 8500 on ebay for 150 dollars. Again, no screw deal here.

He sold the ATA card and a 40GB HD to a friend for 100 dollars.

Now think about it. You are going out to buy a new G4. You see a 1GB RAM, 133MHz Bus, 40GB HD computer for 800 dollars. You throw another 600 in and your computer is as fast as Apples Lineup, for a LOT cheaper.

You have money left for...well..anything. The same guy could have bought the Radeon 8500 and still been under budget compared to apple. Even more when you consider apples includes 256MB of RAM.

Is the 800Mhz classified as a Dual USB? And, the SuperDrive is not standard, its a big addon.

I dont think it is available for the 800

you also have to remember your ibook doesnt come with mac os x server, that adds a lot to the price. that server software is expensive and is very powerful.

The superdrive is a big addon? What about the dual processor addon you were talking about? Talk about an addon.

You can dl OSX Server anywhere. Software doesn't change the price of a used machine much...regardless of whether you have orginal cds or not.

My computer runs UT2k3 fine, can yours? (Concidering that the minimum Proc. speed is 700 MHz.)

and would you be including the Mac OS X Server cds with the computer? Or willing to change the OS? and yes it has an external superdrive + a combo drive built in =/

ah ok, this computer is a less value because you can go steal the operating system from anywhere, well why not just go into the apple store and steal a new computer as well, dont have to have any money or anything.

it would be of less value if the OS was ripped... But i prefer my macs with SYSTEM DISC's or FORMATTED. :D

anyways 500 mhz g4 isnt such a powerhouse.. Maybe upgradable and expandable.. but right now a G4 iMac would be as equal value to my iBook in my eyes.. =)

Wow, you are incredibly ignorant.
READ WHAT I TYPE, NOT WHAT YOU THINK I TYPE

Axor said earlier that he would rather have his iBook with a superdrive and such then my g4. Well thats great.

I said the iBook isnt standard with a superdrive, and it is an expensive upgrade. How often do you burn DVDs? He said your laptopt is portable. I bet that external SuperDrive is REAL portable...

So, you would rather bust 350 dollars (or what ever you spent) on a superdrive that you probly use MAYBE once every 2 weeks, or would you spend another 200 dollars and have a computer as fast as apples powermacs.

I dont see why you even posted in this thread. I said this machine is for sale or for trade. I didnt want you opinion. People do this everywhere. They type because they like to read their typing? I hate idiots.

iJon- Thanks for that point. The machine does include Mac OS X Server. It is very very powerful and efficient.

Or, as someone else said (axor), we can just go steal some operating systems. Hey, could you get me 10.3 while your at it?

Try reading the thread.

I said 1100 is too high prices for that machine. And you went on about all the addons one could put in there. I still don't know why you typed that up. But maybe you could provide a link to a dual 1.25 upgrade for only 600? A single, sure. But a dual 1.25 upgrade runs upwards of 1000 dollars, easy.

The superdrive upgrade for the iBook is internal. Didn't even go to the webpage did you?

Like I said....software adds very little to the value of the computer. Go anywhere else and learn how people OUTSIDE of macrumors do it. It's the hardware that you get NOW. Not the possible upgrades.

Is your OSX Server even a legal copy?

Just because someone knows that machine isn't worth what you are asking, doesn't mean you have to start whining about how it's so much better than an ibook.

I never said i steal operating systems.. I have a legit version of 10.2 licenced to me, including 10.1, and os 9. and My ibook is very portable. when i need portability i take my superdrive in my bag. I didnt mean to rag on your computer, its your sale\trade.. not mine.

How is this. Are you interested in my machine? No? THEN DONT POST! Oh, and if you like to read your text, go type up a document and read it.

Now, that site only has Dual USB Superdrive options. Wow, a 500MHz G3 burning DVDs! OH THE POSSIBILITIES!

I pirate software, but this is a LEGAL COPY! I believe if you are going to be using something for a profit, you buy it.

Oh, and I could only find Dual 900/933MHz upgrades for 650. They are 2MB Level 3 Cache per processor, compared to apples 1MB p/p.

And please, make your next reply your last. I am considering leaving MR because of idiots like yourself. Your post is incredibly pointless. If you would have said

"hey, thats a little overpriced. check out xxx website, they might do trades" that would have been cool.

But I guess there are morons in this world...
