I happened to get one of these for Christmas along with the Zelda game, and I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed. The system itself is very impressive and the Zelda game is excellent (the Sports game is fun too), but the Zelda game is the ONLY decent game (one that I'd be willing to drop $50 on) and there appears to be NOTHING on the horizon, at least not in the near future. It's quite disappointing. Nintendo actually had a great shot at taking back the video game world, considering how revolutionary the Wii is and how ridiculously expensive the competitors are...but just like the Gamecube, they just aren't putting out many games. Sure there are all of those Virtual console games, but I got the Wii to play recent, modern games, not some 20 year old rehash that I played back then...

This should be in the games forums...I reported your post, hopefully mods will move it there
As far as the Wii not having any good games some...your crazy! This year will have Super Smash Bros Brawl...what more do you need?
But if you do need more Mario Galaxy, Prime 3, Disaster Day, Project Hammer, Wii Play, Saddness, Mario Kart, Mario Party, SSX Blur, Sims Wii(currnetly only for Japan but we'll see) possible Resident Evil, Wario Ware....and a heck of a lot more.
2007 will with out a question be one of the best years for gaming in a long, long time

Yeah, but those will be out MONTHS from now...summer or later most likely. It just sucks that once I finish Zelda, the Wii will be collecting dust for several months.

Agreed with Zap.
Every article I have read about the Wii says that Nintendo did a good job getting so many launch titles out so fast. I think the Wii has more launch titles than any other past game system.
As for your reveiw of Twilight Princess. Well you seem to be the only person complaining... The game is FANTASTIC!
IGN gave it a 9.5/10 Which is the highest rated game yet. (They are pretty conservative rating games too...)
There are going to be loads of games coming out this year... Just hold your horses. :)

Well launch never has the best line up. Elebits got good reveiws. Madden 07 is pretty fun(coming from someone who hates most supports games) Wii Play comes out next month. Rayman from what I've read is a good party games, as is Wii Sports.
Maybe even look at some GameCube games..plus with old games being release every week you should be fine

Wrong again.
They will start coming out late winter early spring.
Sonic is chalked up for a febuary release.
SSBB and Mario Galaxy have March release dates.
Just search Google.
If you wanna talk about crappy launch titles then take a look at PS3.
Only decent game they have is Resistance: Fall of Man...

I managed to get my hands on a Wii this Christmas too and Zelda was my only game purchase. I have to say you understated the game a little bit. Its not just a decent game, its an excellent game - probably the best Zelda yet. So far I've managed to clock in a mere 20 hours with this game so that alone makes me feel like my console choice was well justified.
As far as upcoming games, a couple people said before - there are some great titles coming out in March (at least according to Best Buy (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7849581&st=nintendo+wii+games&lp=5&type=product&cp=1&id=1142300186449) anyway) like Super Mario Galaxy and Smash Brothers.
If you can't justify paying full price for a game you can always, dare I say it, rent a video game to see if its worth the purchase. I'm highly on the fence about Elebits (and a couple other Wii games as well) - but a trip to Blockbuster (or Gamefly - but im impatient) this weekend and a couple days to preview the game will influence my purchasing decision I'm sure.

I'm mesmerized by the amount of Wii games I want to play, Wii Sports, Zelda, Rayman RR, WarioWare, Excite Truck, Elebits... if I could get them all I would but I'm going the Zelda + Rayman RR route, that should keep me busy for quite a while.
That is if I even find a Wii, I'll know for sure next Monday :)

I'm not going to have much time for gaming in 2007, but I'm desperately looking forward to Smash Bros Brawl and WarioWare. I think combined with Metroid Prime, Mario Galaxy (all coming out this year) the Wii will absorb all my free time. Yes they are months off. But how long did it take other systems? Take the 360, the highest rated game at the moment (GoW) came out around the time of the PS3 and Wii launch. A whole year and a bit after the systems launch and GoW and Zelda are (were?) up for GotY 2006. A launch title! madness.
I think we've been spoilt with TP as a launch title.
And I have VC games to look forward to :D I missed so many games from yesteryear and now I get a chance to catch up.

Yeah that's what I thought, looking up on Wikipedia: Although a Mario Kart game is not in active development for the system, EAD producer Hideki Konno has indicated that the Wii is the "next logical step" for the Mario Kart series. :(
Lots of good games on the way though!! Besides which, there aren't usually that many good games at a system's launch anyway, just look at the... I don't need to say it.

Well, I've never owned a game system at launch time, since they've always been too expensive (and I didn't have the money when I was younger).

The new Zelda without a doubt is the best of them that I've played (Zelda 1, Link to the Past, some Gameboy one, and Ocarina of Time). I love it. I've got about 36 hours clocked in during late nights and I still have a considerable way to go. But I'm just afraid that after I finish it, the Wii won't see much use. I'm just hesitant to drop $50 on games that got ratings in the 7's and low 8's. I suppose I could rent some. Elebits look like a lot of fun. Has anyone played it?

If you don't have a GameCube, the drought periods are great times to pick up many of those EXCELLENT GameCube games.
You might try Paper Mario, and Beyond Good & Evil.
Sure these aren't the "newest" games, but they are just as good as the new games being released lately. There are a LOT of great GameCube titles - all playable on Wii! :)

I'm a bit dissapointed in the games as well. Even though it's only been a month or so since launch I'd love to pick up some new AAA titles. It seems that Ubisoft is intent on flooding the wii market with crappy ports (with the exception of Rayman). Bear in mind down under we don't even have Trauma Center or Excite truck yet .
To try and fill the gap I'm intent on living up all the gamcube games I missed out on. I've got Resident Evil 4 and Paper Mario and my love of Twilight Princess has also seen me order LOZ Wind Waker with the bonus Ocarina of Time included. Hopefully that'll tide me over until some new games come out. From not playing consoles games in a couple of years I've found myself ravenous for new titles.
Fingers crossed the Wii will follow the lead of the DS and the amount of titles will snowball and outpace the disposable income.

I have been playing Zelda for the last couple of days and it is in my top 10 games of all time for sure. I haven't decided what space it will take up but it is a masterfully made game.
If you are looking to pass the time until March there are alot of games worth renting or buying if you can find them used and not pay retail.
So far from what I have played, I have enjoyed Excite Truck the most but Rayman and Red Steel might be worth a rent too.
Also from the IGN reviews, CoD3, Madden, Elebits, and Trauma Center are also good for a rent or possibly buy if you like them. Wario Ware should be good too when it comes out in a few days. Who knows, you might rent one of these and find that it is extremely fun. Don't let the reviewers at Gamespot and IGN decide what games are good for you. If Excite Truck is any indication, IMO they don't always get reviews right anyway. Gamespot gave Zelda an 8.8! I'm sorry but that is too low even if you are a fan of the 360 and Gears of War or the PS3 and Resistance. I enjoyed what I have played of both of those game but to me they shouldn't be rated any higher than Twighlight Princess irregardless of graphics and music.

One person's playable game is another person's nightmare. I agree with the original poster...which is why I resisted the tug to pick one up (jimi there's tons of them over here in Thailand :) from all regions). IF they really up the res to 720, come out with a lot more decent games, and prove the Wii mote will work reliably (i'm talking less than 1% glitches on movements) I'll be all over this system. Would love a system for older Cube games (still haven't played Cube Paper Mario) and the new Zelda.
But right now the mote is a joke for any non nintendo game and makes gameplay worse not even considering graphics. Zombie games, shooters, etc can have crappy graphics, but the controls have to be there as well...and so far things aren't looking too good for the Wii. We'll see where things go...I'm hopefully positive about where they CAN go...just hope they DO

I disagree. Have you guys played any of the games out for Wii besides Zelda and Wii Sports? If you only are willing to play AAA titles you may wait a while on any console between games. There may not be many out worth plopping down $50 but there are several very entertaining games. Excite Truck at least is worth a rent if you like arcade racers and as I said, I would buy it if I could find it used. Rayman seems pretty good too. If you never played Trauma Center on the DS, it is worth playing and Madden is supposed to be very good but I haven't tried it yet...Finally, Elebits and Wario Ware are supposed to be good too.
If none of that floats your boat, go beat the Original Super Mario Bros., Zelda, Sonic, Gunstar Heroes, Super Mario 64 on the VC. Then go buy Zelda:WW, Paper Mario 1000 Years Door, Super Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime I & II, and Resident Evil IV for Gamecube if you haven't played them...
There are plenty of good games to rent and you might find that one or two are worth buying if you actually play them. And if you don't there is plenty of NES, SNES, TG16, Genesis, N64, and GC goodness to go around. You are pretty hardcore if you beat all of the games I listed above though and if so maybe the Wii isn't for you...
Too me the VC games aren't rehashes though. I forgot most of the ones that I beat and since Christmas there are actually quite a few games worth playing. Also, I usually like to beat a game before I go on to the next one. This has been kinda hard on me since I have been renting alot of the Wii games to try them out...

pcypert, you mean like the DS? IMO no early DS game showcased the system. Yet now look at it. The Wii at least has Wii Sports and Wii play showing what the controller will do. Want a showcase title? Try WarioWare when that's out.
The res will never go above 640. It's not in Nintendos interest. They've clearly marked out where they want to go and all the petitions and rantings on the web will not change their mind (has a web petition actually ever worked?). First off let me say that the only reason Zelda TP is a launch title for the Wii is because Nintendo pushed it back a year+ from the GC so they could sell their cheap little machine. This is how much they care about Zelda fans. Heck, they even wait another month on the GC release despite the fact that's the system it was being developed for.
Now with that being said, I do plan to get a Wii when SSBB comes out as I find SSBM to be rather fun. Plus it'll supposedly be the first game to use multiplayer according to the interview at www.smashbros.com. If you haven't watched the movies on that site, you should. They're both really awesome.
I love how the Wii fanatics complain about the PS3 launch when at least us PS3 owners can play things online. I guess it's like the Windows fans who can't afford the nice machines whining because they can't have one.

My main complaint about the PS3 launch is that there's really nothing you can do with the system that you can't do better on a 360 for less money. At least the Wii offers a unique experience, which puts it above direct comparison.
And, well, it costs less.

Its a great Zelda game regardless of launch title status. But to be honest, I don't think I would have purchased a Wii had it not been a launch title - I would have waited on the purchase. I'm not sure I understand why you take swipes at Nintendo's lack of caring for Zelda fans over a delay. Let me see you make dual versions of a popular video game franchise for two different consoles and then we'll talk.

I'm not sure what a 360 can do that's better than a PS3. From where I stand they seem pretty equal right now. I feel the PS3 has more potential but only exclusives will really move to unlock that potential. I also feel and will go on record that the PS3 will be number 1 in a couple years time as well. That being said, I waited for a ps3 because I won't give Microsoft any money. I was happy with my PS2 and GC, and I'll be happy with my PS3 and Wii.

Let me see you make dual versions of a popular video game franchise for two different consoles and then we'll talk.
That's a lame argument. Let's see anyone make a popular video game for two consoles all by themself. Last I checked a large team of people worked on TP. Nintendo delayed the game for no good reason at all. By the time all was said and done it was pushed back almost two years from the original announcement date. The reason in the middle of 05 they gave everyone was they wanted to "make the game better." Yeah right. They just wanted to have at least one game that didn't suck to put on their new system. And heck, all the reviews I've read say it's a great game but the controls get old after 30 minutes and you want to play it with a classic controller. That's the problem with these types of controls. Once the novelty wears off you have nothing. Just a gamecube in a pretty box.
The only thing I see the Wii for is having friends over to play some multiplayer games because it'll probably be easy to get silly with it. Plus I'd like to play SSBB and some more games in the metroid franchise.
I haven't loved Zelda since the SNES one. I tried playing Ocarina of Time. I tried playing Wind Waker. I bought the GC for the zelda collection disc. The games are boring. There's little to no story at all, and it's just the same old repetitive crap. All RPGs are the same old crap, but they have stories that are so interesting you want to play the game to find out what happens. Zelda doesn't have this. The characters have so little depth it feels like a children's game. I hate to say it because I loved zelda 1 when I was a little kid and I loved Link to the Past... but that's just it... I was a child then!
I do want to play Wind Waker some more and give it another chance. I'll probably whore out the money for TP when I get a Wii and try it out. The only company I'll no longer give any chances to as far as making a good game is Square. Maybe it's not a coincidence the time I stopped playing both Ocarina of Time and WW was at their water temples. Maybe I have some innate hatred of raising/lowering water levels. ;)

The VC games are cool but a moot point...I have them all on the original systems for the most part or on my computer. I would like to play Castlevania II Simon's Quest in progressive if that's allowed though :)
I actually would really like a Wii...I liked playing my friend's cube. I'm not a huge graphics guy, but like them if I could have them. I've played the Wii extensively in stores and at friend's houses. I've played more than just the main two titles as well...so I feel I'm fair in my assessment. It's just funny to me how much folks dog the other guys while ignoring the flaws in their system of choice. The PS3 is lacking right now..but anyone with half a brain sees the raw power possible there...and living in the Asia market I see them dissapearing off the shelves like 360's in the states :)
The Wii has introduced some cool new gameplay and a new market to the ballgame...now their "wad is blown" if you can pardon my French and they've got to prove they can get the mote working in fps's and other games at a precision level to bring in the other folks for more than just a novelty system. If they can up the res, provide more in house features, get the mote working on all games really well, and get CII SQ out ;) I'll be all over it. I'd love a Wii Paper Mario and others. Can't wait for Mario Galaxy...well rephrase that..will wait till it's under 100 like the Cube and games going for under 10 bucks if they can't get more together.

PS - There were many great, playable games when the DS came out for me. Maybe none that really, really used the touchscreen to full potential but it was still great with Mario DS and all that.

The VC games are cool but a moot point...I have them all on the original systems for the most part or on my computer. I would like to play Castlevania II Simon's Quest in progressive if that's allowed though :)
Castlevania II ruled! I remember almost being in tears when mom bought me #1 for Christmas when I was 12. I saw it in her bag by mistake, and dropped a hint to her that #1 stinks and all the kids want #2. Well, we took it back and exchanged it for #2. I also had enough money to pick up blaster master. That game was fun and had amazing boss graphics, but the tank levels were a touch awkward.

I love how the Wii fanatics complain about the PS3 launch when at least us PS3 owners can play things online. I guess it's like the Windows fans who can't afford the nice machines whining because they can't have one.
Online is a moot point. You can have all the lovely cars in the world but without petrol they're going nowhere. You can have all the online capabilities in the world but without decent games...

If you don't like the games that's fine. Many people do. I've never had a problem finding people to play Resistance or RR7 with. Besides, you are mean and removed me from your MSN for some reason a few months ago. :p
And what good games are there for the Wii? I already said how much Zelda bores the heck out of me. The only thing I even want to play is Wii Sports. And that's just the demo! At least the PS3 had 4 whole games I actually wanted to play.

Untold Legends is fun to play online too :) That and getting to be 7-10k ranked in the GT Demo.. lol :D
Resistance is more fun in multi-player than it is in single player imho. I have yet to buy RR7.
Currently i have
PS3: Untold Legends, Resistance, Need for Speed Carbon, Blazing Angels
Wii: Zelda TP, Rayman RR, Red Steel, Excite Truck, Madden 07, Elebits, Super Monkey Ball BB

You're ranked that bad? My best ranking on a time trial was 501 and that was just a couple days ago! :P

Welcome to the pros and cons of launch console ownership. :D
It's always been that way and always will be that way, that's why I'm holding off on buying a Nintendo Wii. I've said it a million times lately and I'll reiterate...show me more, Nintendo...I like what I see so far, but show me more... ;)

I hope Nintendo doesn't pull a Cube with the Wii, say what you will the Cube was a crappy console, it had a few exclusives, but PS2 and Xbox had way more exclusives (and for the most part, BETTER exclusives) I was very dissapointed with how Nintendo handled the Cube, the Wii seems to be different but if Nintendo once agains alienates the 3rd party then screw them, man can't live on Nintendo games alone :)
That doesn't look like it will happen for the Wii though, I swear if I ever hear Nintendo as the best developer for their consoles I'll be very dissapointed, their games are pretty ******* awesome but its nice playing stuff other than Nintendo characters.

I know it's true to a point, but how does Nintendo "screw" 3rd parties? Or are they just not interested?

What I find amusing is that Nintendo is doing the exact same thing in reverse of what people accuse Sony of doing. Nintendo released a huge supply in the beginning and now the supply has trickled down to the point where local stores see no more than 3-6 a week. Sony on the other had had bluray diode production issues and shipped out a minimum supply in the beginning and now that the problem is fixed is shipping bi-weekley shipments of the PS3 to retailers. Saying Sony is purposely holding back systems in order to create demand seems to be exactly what Nintendo is doing right now.
Sony is doing a great job of keeping retailers stocked with PS3's. I still have yet to see a 60GB sitting on a shelf at a retailer. From what i can tell from talking to people the 60GB model is selling as fast as they can stock them with the 20's taking 12-30 hours on average to sell.
As far as the 360 goes, 10 million with basically Zero competition on its "Next -Gen" level for a year is pretty poor, nothing to brag about. A 360 Premium with a HD-DVD add-on is the same price as a PS3 60Gb, only you get 40GB less HD space, no Wifi, no memory card reader, and a basic outdated/Last Generation DVD9 system to play games from, Dont mention the processors which are as last gen as the media that the games are stamped on. I find it funny that the PS2 outsold the 360 all but one month of their launch year. M$ is keeping stores stocked with 360's its apprent by the mass quantities that are available in every store that sells them. They should release some sales numbers and not just how many they shipped, but of course that would be probably too embarrasing for a lot of the members here that so back M$.

It sounds like you haven't even played a Wii yet. In which case, it would be difficult to judge the quality of the launch titles. Who cares what IGN, Gamespot etc. think about the games. After playing them, what do you think?
I could just as easily say that the only PS3 game that interests me at launch is Resistance but it doesn't mean anything about the quality of the other games or whether they are fun.
My brother got me Splinter Cell for the Wii and I think it's pretty good.

Nope. It's a suprisingly deep game with a lot to do.

If I can play Wii golf and whack player 2's avatar with my club, then I'm there. ;)

Miscellaneous console technology/comparison discussion has been split off into new thread since it was taking this one far off-topic.
