I have 2 hard drives in my G4. One has OS 9 and OS X.1 on 2 seperate partitions. The other has Jaguar (X.2.6) on it. I want to format the first hard drive and reinstall only OS 9.2. Can I do this without hurting anything on the Jaguar drive ??
If so, do I just boot to the OS 9 CD and select the format/install option ?

As long as OS 9 is on a separate partition, which you say it is, you can reformat the partition without effecting 10.1.

I want to get rid of 10.1 It is on the same drive as OS 9. 10.2.6 is by itself on a seperate hard drive.

Should be fine.

In that case, just delete the partition scheme on the drive with 9 and 10.1 and reformat the entire drive.

Startup from the drive with Jaguar on it and format the other drive using disk utility. You will also have the option to change the partition scheme from there.

I went into Disk Utility to erase the OS 9.2_hard drive, but the erase option was greyed out ? It seems the drive was locked by the previous owner to prevent any changes. How can I overcome this ?? If I boot from the OS 9 CD, will I be able to reformat this locked drive ?

Yes you should be able to format from the OS9 cd or the OSX cd. In either case make sure you chose HFS+ for your formating method.

Are you sure you weren't booted into OS9?
