This is a feeler for a Black MacBook that has a broken LCD screen. The Bezel is still fine, it is just that the screen is cracked. To replace it, it would cost too much by Apple. To replace it by a third party, would void the warranty.
How did I break it? I running up the stairs and my dog was sniffing my butt, I looked back and slipped and fell. Naturally the thing to do is use your hands to catch yourself, problem was, my hands were tied up because my MacBook was in my hands.
System still works fine. I have booted it up and hooked it to my monitor and all is well... but the screen.
I still have pretty much everything with my MacBook when I bought it in May(?) when it first came out.
So.. how much is this worth to you?

Hey,
When you get a second, could you PM me the serial number? I'm pretty interested in this. Also, are you looking for any trades?
Thanks,
Jason

You might want to read about the HD screen mod thread in the forum. You might be able to replace it yourself and get yourself great resolution as well.

to replace the screen it really varies. From Apple, it costs 750 to replace...
from 3rd party, but will void AppleCare costs about 400-500 dollars...
doing it yourself costs about 200.
I have looked up some DIY solutions, however it looks too complicated to me. Im not afraid of gutting a desktop, but a laptop is something im afraid of because I just dont have the finesse

Hey waco,
do you have apple care on this computer? Then around what price are you looking to get for it with the broken screen?

I did not extend my AppleCare on this system. However it still has the default AppleCare on it until July 20, 2007
I understand this is a broken laptop, but this is a black one.... which costed more for me :'(

I understand that too, but when the screen cracked the value went down so much, also just a nit picky thing nothing "costed" anything ;).
I'd offer $300 for this.

wrong question IMHO, it is up to you. what is it worth to you to be rid of it, and move on to whatever is next. the screen can be fixed for lots less than you would spend to replace it. use the ifixit guide, and take your time.
or just think of it as the fastest mini out there, and it comes with a built-in keyboard and UPS battery backup system. sweet!
if it is a money issue, you are in the wrong place. ebay is full of people with way to much time and money, and they are always looking for a project just like this. i know, i keep getting outbid by them...
best of luck with whatever route you pick.

I dont know if anyone has thought about it, but this would be a perfect candidate for a modbook. They replace the screen, so this would be the perfect way to get one on the cheap.

assuming you are talking about the modbook that was shown in MWSF, arent those sold with NEW macbooks?

yeah but after awhile they said they are going to mod people's macbooks. And since they replace the screen. This would really be optimal, yes youd have to be patient to get it done. But a broken screen macbook is perfect for getting a modbook on the cheap.

Alright I guess it would be easier to just state a price I am looking for...
So far there are three people that have said they are interested and are willing to go with the price point, but to give them time, none of them have PMd me back their final decision...
I am looking for 650 shipped.
I think I would be willing to part with it for 550 shipped if you allowed me to keep the HDD because that can become a nice external HDD and I wouldnt need to do a massive backup for the system, but rather just set it aside until I get another mac or something....

My offer stands at $400 and I pay shipping. You can keep the hard drive for I will have no need for it.
In all honesty I don't think you are going to find anyone who wants to shell out $650 for a broken laptop.

What are the full specs of the macbook?

just to update people who are interested on the option of no harddrive for 550...
reason why I chose is because the last 50 bucks is to cover the fees for paypal and shipping. If someone lives in the metropolitan area in Maryland, I wouldnt mind waving off 25 bucks for 525 which I have been getting alot of request for...
Ill try to post pics tomorrow. I tried with my phone cam but it came out terrible

Well I guess I should update this since there was so much interest in it...
I have decided that I will not sell it now, but sell it after the school year. I cant see myself not using a mac at school, and with the new semester, I need to use the money I have now to buy books.
Thanks for all those that sent their offers.

I would put it on eBay. Broken stuff should sell for quite a bit more there.

A screen replacement won't void the warrenty if it's replaced by an authorized apple repair center- I dropped my Powerbook last year and have had to have it serviced twice by Applecare (dead RAM slot on my mobo and a faulty trackpad temp. sensor).
I used these guys (http://www.macservice.com) to fix my screen; they offer a 10% education discount if you email them with information (you said you were in school) so the repair might about $350ish.
Kind of expensive, but you'd spend more selling the broken laptop and replacing it.
