DVD to DivX encoding help?

I just ripped a DVD in forty-two. I used the "Near DVD" mode. 12 minutes of the DVD have been encoded, and the file size is already 220MB!

How come DivX's that you download are usually only 700-900MBs? Am I supposed to do something after this?

Could anyone guide me in making this process go faster? I am only at 24 minutes and file size is 441 MB.

A dvd is like 9 gigs or 5 gigs probably 9. You wnat similar quality to that so sizes wil lbe up there. I suggest u try to pick the mathod that forms it for a stnadard CD or for two Cds. The trade off between qquality and size is decent.
