Course we did. Wii outputs 480i/480p/576i But no PAL Progressive... do PAL games do 480p? Or are we stuck in 576i?

Nope, no PAL progressive  though I've found myself playing Zelda a few times in 576i, definitely makes the colours brighter and image sharper on my screen. Flicker isn't that bad either. some VC games are locked to 576i too making them look very crisp indeed (Sonic comes to mind).

480p is progressive, and very few consoles actually output 576p because that's still 50hz
Whereas 480p is 60hz, which is 17.5% faster
480p is the better choice and is noticeably better than 576i on a screen that supports progressive scan.
I guess Europe should just be grateful we got progressive at all. ;)

We certainly don't get S-Video. I've looked around the shops and online and there are no PAL S-Video cables.

Doesnt necessarily mean we didnt get it. Only way to know for sure is to buy an Svideo cable from play-asia or ebay.
But RGB scart is better than S-Video anyway and you can rest in comfort knowing that America & Japan never got the RGB scart leads ;) :D
