View Full Version : How to care for a mirror-drive door baby?

Hello!

I'm doing some web-work for a fellow Mac-owner, and also keeping an eye on how his computer is running, as he's a musician with absolutely no interest in that side of things, and is liable to erase crucial files or do things which are generally unhelpful.

Anyway, it's a mirror-drive door dual 867, which is quite a marvel to behold.

The other day it was crashing continually (he has to run in OS 9 because of the music programs he uses), so I decided to Nortons it... but it wouldn't boot up from the Nortons disk. Nor would it boot up from the OS 9 disk.

My question is: what tools should I use to check and repair and defrag his disk etc, if Norton's won't boot up? And, for that matter, WHY won't Nortons boot up? I can't find anything on Apple support about this, but then, I can never find anything on Apple support... I don't think we speak the same language.

Any help / suggestions etc would be most appreciated.

Okay, I've got one idea about how to use Norton's:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/num.nsf/docid/2003021416084811?OpenDocument&src=hot&prod=Norton%20SystemWorks%20for%20Macintosh&ver=2.0&stg=2&base=http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/nsys-mac/&next=nsys_mac_2_search_other.html&sone=nsys_mac_2_tasks.html&tpre=

(please excuse that horrendous link... )

I can run it from another partition. But my questions still stand... Symantec says that Norton's wont boot up in 2003 Macs, but the mac I'm using is a 2002 model, and it boots in OS 9 fine - so it should boot Norton's, right?
