Trying to play a LAN game of AOE3 with a friend using windows?

Hey, i have been trying to get a lan game going between a friend and i, and when we try it comes up with an error saying "crc mismatch", what does this mean?

he is on wndows and i am using my mbp, is this the problem?

any ideas?

They do not work together! Incompatible. Which sucks but yeah...
