Is the superdrive right for me?

Sometime next month I want to buy my second mac. I have a ibook 500 and wish to get a Gig powerbook. I mostly watch DVDs, IM, websurf, digital photos, do papers and some programming. Please don't try to talk me into getting another ibook, I want a powerbook. However, I'm not sure on the superdrive. I know I probably don't need it. Is it worth having regardless?

In my position, is $200 worth more than the DVD burner?

it comes in handy for mass photo/video backup. along with obviously making video dvds of either stills or video stuff.

only you can really decide whether it's worth it to you...

i wasn't going to get it (2 summers ago, with my dual 800), but i'm now very glad i did.
