I have a G4 Mac Mini 1.42Ghz that I upgraded to 1Gb of RAM. I don't really use it since I bought my iMac so I was curious as to what I could get for it.

Sadly the value has gone down (like all ppc macs) and id say around 350-400 though I could be wrong.

Does it have a superdirve? Bluetooth and Airport? What size hard drive?

Thanks

Yes in that range I imagine on eBay. On here a little lower. I am planning on selling mine soon too. And my Powerbook in hopes of a nice refurb MacBook. :D

My G4 has similar specs. I should have it posted in the next couple days.

These things came with dedicated video cards right? If you could find out the specs of this, and if you come up with a price, I would be interested.

I believe it is an ATI Radeon 9200 with 32MB of VRAM

Funny, I was looking for just such a mini. You should sell it as high as you can, obviously, wherever that may be. Ebay has fees, but otherwise, if that's where you'd get more $, why not?

In my own calculation, $200 is about what I'd be willing to pay, not because of any "inherent" value, but from simple calculation.

I don't think buying a mini right now is a good idea - new ones are coming up very shortly, probably 1-3 months, and will have upgraded CPU, n-speed wifi, iLife07, Leopard at the very least, maybe more (GPU?).

Brand new low end mac mini right now is $575 (with $25 rebate) on Amazon. I bet it'll be the same with the new one, but let's say there will be no rebate and it'll be equal to retail price, so $600. That's $250 more than the $350 suggested here. Against that additional $250, you have to charge for iLife07 ($70) and Leopard ($130) for $200. So you end up paying $50 extra in cash.

What you get with the G4 is: 20GB bigger HDD, 512MB bigger RAM, SuperDrive.

Other things you get with a new mini: you are covered by Apple warranty for 1 year (or more if you use a credit card as I do - which gets me at least an extra year free). You are on the intel platform. Faster CPU. Maybe other hardware enhancements. Your mini is brand new. And your total cost is only $50 more in cash.

Personally, therefore I would not pay more than $200 for a G4 mini as above. The other things: the extra 512MB is not useful to some people, as for example I'd like to max out the RAM anyway, which just would waste the 512MB stick (unless you got that 1GB on one stick, which I doubt). I already have a DVD burner. The extra 20GB is not significant for my purposes.

Again that's my reasoning why I'd not pay more than $200, and everyone has their own analysis, the more the merrier :) :) :)

i sold my mini a few months ago (december '06)... specs & price:

1.25 Ghz G4

512MB RAM
Combo drive
Airport
OS X 10.3 install discs
iLife '05 install discs
original box
Apple wired keyboard

not the best deal for me (although not terrible) but i was glad to get it out of my office.

methinks you should be able to get between $200 and $250.

Honestly, how is that contributing to the thread. You're getting lowballed here, if you can sell it locally or on craigslist and get a nice healthy amount $350-450. Noone wants to hear about how much YOU would pay for it, the OP wants to know what its worth is in the real world. I see nothing you are doing besides threadcrapping. Also, the minis only have 1 RAM slot, so yes, the 1GB is on one stick.

I'd guess about $300 on the low-end, maybe a quick sale, or posted here.

I'd assume maybe a hair over $400 on the high-end. You wait it out, are patient, and get a little lucky either locally or on ebay.

If I were going to buy one, personally, I'd consider it for about $350 shipped, if you had references.

Sell it on eBay, I am watching lower spec'd machines go for $300, so you shouldnt have a problem breaking the low ball offers above.

Hey, chill. The OP asked about selling his mini and wanted to get a feel for the prices. So, what I did is gave him an example of how people think about pricing (f.ex. myself) - which is relevant if he wants to sell it here. I also advised him that he could probably get more on Ebay - again, a datapoint. If he was just interested in Ebay though, then why wouldn't he just look there, and not ask questions here? Obviously, it's valuable to get feedback. So, if f.ex. he needed to get rid of it fast, not pay Ebay fees, especially if he doesn't have much of a rating on Ebay, then he may want to know how much he could get in the way of "fast cash" here... and my response was $200, and I told him why, and several other posters also agreed about the $200. That said, I stressed that he should get as much as he can - if he can get $1,000,000, well, good for him. So please chill before you start accusing people of "thread-crapping". I gave valuable feedback, and wasn't lowballing (since I pointed out he can go the Ebay road).

That sounds about right. It's a little less than I paid for mine around September of 2005. Obviously, I purchased it used. It still had a warranty until January of 2006. So, it was less than a year old.

Mine was equipped just about identically except that it didn't include a monitor. I paid a total of $375 including shipping.

So, with that in-mind, I'd say you did really good getting $300 for it. And, I think that $250 to $300 would represent a reasonable value for the PowerPC mini's at this point.

Of course, what they are worth, and what a select few will pay for them are two different things.

I've seen a lot of people still trying to get in the high $300 and high $400's (up to $475) out of them. Naturally, those machines tend to take a while to sell.

So, you generally have two potential approaches. Ask high, and sit on it for a while waiting for the guy who will pay more. Or, ask in the lower range ($250 to $300) and get your money faster.

The real question, is whether you want the low value now, or the high value later. In other words, is it worth waiting longer to get a little extra, or would you rather get what you can now and apply it to your new machine faster?

I hope this helps.

Yes I had to chip in about $150 more.

Swiftaw,

Try your local craigslist. You won't believe how many people will buy it at your asking price. I sold my ibook 1Ghz , 756MB mem, 80Gig Hd, Airport with Panther for $650 in Dec '06.
