I guess that is what it takes to get attention in these forums. I am in desperate need of help. I can't figure out why the dvds I burn are skipping. I extract the files from the disk, they play back fine from my mac, but when i burn them to dvd using toast, they skip both on my mac and in my set top player. Does compressing cause them to skip>? what should i do??? PLEASE HELP

Finalizing? I rip in mactheripper, compress and burn in toast. It goes through a verification process, and checks out ok, but when i play it in a player, it skips. some of them also play about 3 minutes of black screen before the movie starts. >???

In my experience, it's often the brand of DVD you're burning to that causes this. Some brands of DVDs are absolute garbage for video. If you're using a brand like memorex, or maxwell, or some other crappy brand, skipping can and will occur. I would recommend, Verbatim, Fujifilm, and Sony for quality disks.

Sounds like cheap media - does the compressed Toast file skip as well (choose File>Save as Disc Image... instead of burning to a DVD - to see if the compression causes it).

I've found that when Toast compression gets into the 30 % range, things starting getting "goofy" on playback so I don't bother anymore, waste of discs.

Well this is disappointing... But I agree it sounds like cheap disks. I'd try live4ever's suggestion.
