iPod+JBL Creature Speakers+extra dock=decent stereo setup?

I don't' have a stereo at the moment because I listen to all my music on my computer. However, I'll be getting my own apartment this fall and would like to have a decent stereo in my living room. would getting an iPod with an extra dock and hooking it up to a pair or creature speakers do the trick? What does everyone think? I wont' be able to afford it for a while but I wanna have a good idea of what to get when the time comes.

Get a nice surround sound system instead (for requisite TV / DVD / VCR / PS2 or XBOX or GC setup). The new iPod with dock has line out port. Connect line out to the receiver.
