I have absolutely NO use for this adapter.

I did not realize apple has two different sizes for the same "mini-dvi" connector. Why they dont name them differently is beyond me.

Anyway, AFAIK, this will fit iBooks and possibly anything prior to the Macbook/InteliMacs.

this is BRAND spankin new, it did come in a nice sealed plastic bag from apple, but I had to open it, only to find its not what i needed.

Apple Mini-DVI to VGA adapter.

Anywhere in the US....$10 shipped!

Doesn't the iBook have a mini-VGA port, not a mini-DVI port?

That's why the mini-DVI to VGA doesn't fit the iBook, not because there are 2 different sizes of mini-DVI ports.

I'm pretty sure you are selling a min-VGA to VGA adapter (that is, if you have a PowerBook or MB or MBP and the adapter doesn't fit.)

(I think there's also a mini-VGA to DVI adapter, but it seems you got the output part right, just the wrong input part.)

I have a new intel imac, i wanted to hook up my VGA CRT to it.

I bought this adapter that is like 1mm too small for the imac.

Oh, then that is out of my area of expertise, perhaps someone else can clarify.

But the iBook for sure has a mini-VGA port, not a mini-DVI port.

Apple description's says the mini-DVI port is for the Intel iMac, MacBook, and 12-inch PowerBook G4 (I think the larger PB's and MBP have a full-sized DVI port already)-

If you take a photo of the mini-end, someone here can reply for sure what you have-

this is what I bought.

from what ive read on google, it seems this was mis-labeled:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230092901629

it was sold as a mini-dvi to VGA adapter, when in reality this is actually a mini-VGA to VGA adapter?

right?

Yeah, I think the auction was mislabelled. The iBooks have mini-VGA ports.

Now I understand your original post about there being 2 different sizes of mini-DVI ports.

If your adapter really does fit an iBook (and I'm assuming it does based on the auction description), then it is a mini-VGA to VGA adapter.

Their current auction has different wording now- 230097321884

if you look at the sellers other items, she labeld the other mini-vga adapter correctly.

perhaps this would lead me to a full refund?

I think it would be reasonable. The seller is a school with good feedback, I'm sure they would understand.

The listing mentioned the adapter not being for MacBook, etc. but didn't mention the iMac. And being that the listing was for a mini-DVI to VGA adapter, it's reasonable that you purchased it with the expectation it would work.

They might tell you that you should have measured the port size on your iMac (since they gave that info in the auction). But clearly the listing contained factual errors, so they are at least partly responsible.

If you educate them on what they have (and that there are 2 different kinds of ports, mini-DVI and mini-VGA, not 2 different sizes of the SAME port), it might help them in their future auctions.
