Last week's rumor comes true! :D
And it's only $5!!

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/770/770555p1.html

Starring Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo in all their 2D sprite-based glory, this coin-op port will support voice-chat capabilities, offer 200 points worth of Achievements and, best of all, will only costs 400 Microsoft Points (US$5).

"The release of the TMNT classic arcade game on Xbox LIVE Arcade is Ubisoft's homage to a world-renowned franchise that for almost 20 years has captured the hearts of gamers," said James Regan, director of new business development at Ubisoft. "Ubisoft is breathing new life into the video game franchise with the launch of our downloadable console games while remaining true to the unique core values that make the Turtles so timeless."

Voted the number one most wanted Xbox Live Arcade game by IGN's readers in 2006 (see Xbox Live Arcade: Most Wanted), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is finally coming home. But if you just can't get enough turtles and the coin-op version is leaving you starving, Ubisoft also has a brand new Prince of Persia-ified version that's due to hit Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PSP, Windows PC, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, Nintendo GameCube and Wii to coincide with the upcoming CGI movie. Turtle power, baby!

That is probably some of the best news I have heard in a long time as far as Xbox live arcade games go. I just hope they don't ruin the game like they did with Contra. The NES Contra is quite possibly my favorite game of all time, my friend and I would play it all the time and still do, when we can get the NES to work. I was extremely pumped to hear it was coming to the xbox live arcade, but they completely changed the game and the controls.

I really hope they keep this game exactly as it was, while adding the voice and multiplayer online. And the price is great too.

I was a bit bummed with Contra too...I can still beat it in less than 15 minutes...depending on my playing partner most times less than 12 :) TMNT was a game I played a lot back in the day...I was a TMNT nut as a kid...still have my toys...even the VAN!

I worked for an arcade when this game was released. My manager put in enough credits that morning, so me and the other employees could beat it. I would buy this game in an instance if I had a 360. :)

I'm looking forward to making this purchase as well!

I know what you mean about Contra. I was all excited to play that online with a friend, until I realized how poor the game is compared to the arcade one. Just wasn't worth it.

Yeah, I wonder where Sonic is? I haven't heard squat about Sonic in months.

Paperboy...bleh. I got the demo and was thoroughly disappointed. I used to love Paperboy on the NES...the 360 arcade one just seemed really screwed up to me for some reason. I had control problems (I have no idea why)...it seemed like a sloppy mess to me. Maybe I just couldn't get used to it or something.

Sweet, I'll be getting this one.

I saw a list somewhere once with titles that were supposed to be added... I'm hoping it was legit because my favorite game, Gyruss, was on that list. I can't wait.

But you don't have to have "Friend's Codes" on the 360...just search for other players. No need for friends to have it.

Downloaded this tonight and so did a friend of mine. We played through level 3 (via Xbox Live) and then ran out of lives and had to start over. I do not remember the original as well as other classic games I played back in the day, but this seems to be very similar...unlike Contra :(

$5 is definitely worth it for this game. I believe that is the same price for NES games on the VC and this was also an NES game, not just an arcade (if I recall correctly).

If you liked this game in 1989, you'll enjoy playing it again :)

I just downloaded and played through a couple levels with a friend. Glad to see they kept it exactly like the original. I haven't tried online but I'm sure it is easy and works great.

Definitely a must buy for any 360 owner.

The acheivements looks like they will take some skill, but not impossible. A lot of them only give you one chance to get it each time you play through (like "Don't get frozen", "Don't get burnt", etc).

I've manage two... the others are going to be awhile.

A definite contrast to Worms XBLA, I had all the acheivements in only a few sittings.

Purchased it yesterday and immediately fired it up. I got all the way through -- which was something I never did years ago in the arcade because I always ran out of quarters.

But really -- I don't remember it being THIS difficult. I just flew through lives. Lots of moments when 4+ enemies on the screen hitting me as soon as I'd get up from getting knocked down -- really wasn't anything I could do about that.

It's a decent port though. I met the requirements for the "don't let the Shredder turn you into a turtle" achievement, but for whatever reason, it didn't grant it to me.

I need to renew my membership and get this TODAY! :D

I loved that game, now the first TMNT for NES, that is a different story!!!!!!!!!

I'm downloading it right now.

The original NES version had its own charm to it. I enjoyed playing through it back then but it doesn't have the same replay value to it as the arcade does.

for some reason the controls are slightly different. I used to be able to constantly jump and kick at most enemies and bosses on the NES version. But with this game, I have a really hard time getting that timing right. Makes me loose a ton of lives. I seriously must go through about a dozen lives person boss in this version.

This game was on SNES, not NES. The NES TMNT game was totally different.

I ended up playing through this twice, very fast. The game is actually very short, but could really eat up your quarters :D

Now we need the one with Captain America and the other superheroes. ;)

This game was on SNES, not NES. The NES TMNT game was totally different.

There were 3 TMNT games on the NES, and the arcade game was one of them and I remember playing it. :) (part 2 on the NES)

Foxglove was talking about the Ultra Games one...TMNT 1. That was a good (but incredibly hard) game. I made it to the Technodrome but I've never beaten the game.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtles#Video_games
The first Famicom/NES TMNT game was the single-player Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, released by Konami/Ultra in 1989. It was unique in that at any point, the player could switch from one turtle to the next to take advantage of each Turtle's strengths. In addition, the player starts off in a strategic map where the player may explore sewer holes as well as engage patrolling enemy foot soldiers before entering any in-game portals. The game would also be released on the Amiga home computer, in an almost identical conversion.

Also released by Konami in 1989 was the first TMNT arcade game, also titled simply Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This side-scrolling "beat-em-up" was ported to the NES as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game. This led to an NES-only sequel, entitled "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3: The Manhattan Project", which used the look of the arcade game, as opposed the first NES game.

Now we need the one with Captain America and the other superheroes. ;)

Ah yes, Captain America & The Avengers. I loved that game. IMO they could dump all the side scrolling multiplayer beat em ups to the 360 and I wouldn't care one bit because they were all great fun. The Simpsons (another Konami title), Final Fight, Captain Commando, The Punisher (all three by Capcom of course)...great stuff. :D

You are correct, Turtles in Time was on the SNES :o

Yea that Simpsons beat em up was a fun one too :D

I love the old 2D stuff, I wish we could have some really updated (or brand new) 2D games with 3D elements :( Imagine the possibilities :D

Yes, I know that. :D
You said this one on Xbox Live was not on the NES, but it was. ;)

NES:
TMNT (Ultra Games)
TMNT 2: The Arcade Game (port of the arcade game on the NES)
TMNT 3: The Manhattan Project (new game using the arcade game look)

SNES:
TMNT 4: Turtles in Time (new game using the arcade game look)

TMNT 4: Turtles in Time is not the same game as this one for Xbox Live (the arcade game).

TMNT 2 on the NES is the same game as this one for Xbox Live (the arcade game).
