I will be going off to College in a few months, and I will require a laptop computer. I don't own a Mac, but I have used my friend's iMac, so I am eager to convert. Does anyone know where I can get one for free? Maybe someone has one lying around.... Thanks for the help.

You could trade something for an iBook, but that has to be something good.

Ok, I have a PC, which I can trade. It has a 1.2Ghz P3, and 64MB of R.A.M. No video card. Will that do?

I think it is safe to assume that that was not a helpful number. My local computer shop wanted $800 for his cheapest Windows notebook. Maybe someone will trade computers with me?

No, but if you had a IBM Thinkpad or a old 65" Television you might have a chance.

I don't need a new ibook an older one would do fine. I don't think an iBook and a huge tv should have the same price. Do tv's even come in those sizes?

I hate to break it to you OP, but I think even the promise of the world's hottest women posing nude with a free iBook wouldn't be enough incentive for most total strangers on an internet forum to give away an iBook. :)

That said, you're not likely to get a free iBook or to find someone willing to swap (at least not here on MR, try Craigslist).

And, you say you're going to college in a few months? That means you're likely either 17 or 18 years of age. Surely, you can get yourself a job, even one that pays minimum wage, and if you save up diligently, you could easily make enough within "a few months" to get a used iBook, or even a refurb/ used MacBook.

G' luck.

I have an old iBook lying around. I'm also moving within walking distance to my office. New condo should be ready about May 1st. I'll be giving away my iBook and car around that time.

Yeah, you're basically not gonna find something for free. Like devilot said, get a job. You have a couple months, you should be able to save enough scratch to get something on ebay.

I am willing to trade and I saved up almost $200 working $4 per hour at the local Bowling Alley, but unfortunately I can no longer work there. Thanks for your kindness.

The crazy thing is 677 is one of the two prefixes used in my small town. I think I might know the person with that number in my area code...

If no one else wants to help me, how can I get in contact with you? I would like to get my iBook as soon as possible, so that I can learn how to use Macintosh os Ten.

Yes, 65" is true 1080p quality. Also the 65" TV is very big and I would buy one.

I can guarantee you there are other jobs that you could be hired for in your area. There just are. Snows there? Shovel snow. Losta leaves? Rake leaves. Lotsa rug rats? Babysit. Get the picture? Even if a retail place won't hire you (and I'm sure there's at least a freakin' Starbucks nearby  ), there are and always will be jobs available if you're just not too picky.

BTW, rather decent iBooks can start at $500. So you're already on your way there...

Anyway...for $200 you could probably pick up a G3 PowerBook from eBay. They are not bad machines for running OS X on and doing basic stuff like WP, internet, iTunes.
