I am less than impressed with the keynote, I expected more developments, games, something new/exciting! The only good part is that he confirmed that Mario Galaxies will be out this year! :D
I would post it all, but click the link, its rather long.
12:07: A Super Mairo Galaxy graphic appears on the screen, and Miyamoto says the spherical stages of the game are another element of Mario 128 revived for the game, which will come out later this year.
I was hoping he had something in his back pocket to steal some of the thunder that Sony produced yesterday. However that didn't happen :(
I still say Sony stole the show this year :)

huh? Nintendo couldn't say anything because of the stock sale...what were you expecting?

...various excuses...
Something a little less boring would have been nice. They could have said or introduced anything they wanted, but I won't touch that to try to keep this one clean.

It's like calling out a developers conference on new Leopard for not having any new iPods.
1. It's a game developers keynote.
2. It was known well in advance that there would be no announcements because of the stock sale.
3. HOLY CRAP SMG LOOKS AWESOME.

Because it's hard to grasp-
Nintendo couldn't give much out due to the whole stock issue.
Plus it's GDC. It isn't E3. If Sony want to treat it as such, then cool, this was a gathering of developers, not regular gamers.

Sorry, what is "the whole stock issue"? I heard the gov't of Japan owns a bunch and is selling it - that, or something else?
Given all the concern over game drought and slipping releases, I think hearing Miyamoto say, in March, that Galaxy is shipping in 2007 is reassuring.

Them colours are simply beautiful. What an example of fantastic art direction. Not bright, not dark. Just perfect. The motion looks so smooth. Mind, body and soul have now melted
At about 38 seconds - heard that melody hidden away on the old E3 vids. Beautiful. Good to see Mario with good music again.
What did Will Wright call Shigsy again? :D

Exactly ?
Surely when your facing stock price ? then you come out and say - look we have these sure fire hits that will sell millions and will be available on such and such date. You take every opportunity you can to reassure consumers / developers and investors. Seems like a wasted opportunity for everyone concerned.
And the lack of information in regards to the big name games - leaves me wondering if we will see most of them this year or not. We all know from past experience Nintendo and release schedules are not great bed fellows, and i'm skeptical we will see Mario Galaxy this year at all (it does look sweet though)

Developers should always be willing to take risks and delay games when they're not ready.
If a game isn't ready then don't give me buggy unfinished cack. Give me polish and perfection.

He did say something about not releasing crap just to meet deadlines and that it was perfectly acceptable to push a game back to fix problems, so...I would (and always do) count on perfection with Nintendo developed titles - or at least the ones where Miyamoto has involvement; the man is a genius.
I hope we get a Wii Pikmin title. :)

Galaxy looks...well, it looks mind-blowingly complicated, in a spatial sense...certainly should counter the "Wii is only good for party games" vibe. Oh yeah, and it looks great, too.

In what’s being seen as a strange act to boost the amount of its stock available for purchase in the homeland, Nintendo asked the Japanese government to sell its 1.987-million shares of ‘common’ stock (1.4% of the entire available Nintendo stock).
The price for that sale has now been set at at 30,478 yen (£135.70) per share - a 2.47% discount of the closing price on Tuesday 6th March (Japan). The shares are being held by a government body called the Banks' Shareholdings Purchase Corp – and are to be sold into the market by a syndicate of Japanese stock broking companies.

If your trying to sell it at a reduced price, I can kind of understand holding back BIG NEWS that may make prices surge, but if you the one setting the priuce anyways.....why the hell does it even matter. He really didn't say anything relevant to developers or users alike. Pretty much just gave us a "My history with Nintendo" lecture. I didn't need to hear about his Wife-O-Meter, I woudl have preffered info about ONLINE gaming, or NEW titles, or even something relating to anything regarding the Wii's future(rather than Miyamoto's past) Stuff liek that belongs in a personal BLOG not a GDC keynote - IMHO.

Boring, monotonous and way way too easy. My least favorite console Zelda (though I still like it a lot).

in its defense - no loading, what the future of gaming should be all about IMO. Nice-ish music (not iPod worthy IMO). Nice pacing and animation. I think it lacked a certain Zelda charm though. Not compelling enough to make me want to finish it. Though much better than Majora's Mask, not as grand and fun as TP.
that said I'd buy MM in the bat of an eyelid. Might get a proper chance to play this time.
Plenty IMOs there!

I agree. WW was quite a disappointment to me. TP on the other hand I consider to be the best game ever. I have never enjoyed a game so thoroughly.

I don't really understand how you guys can say you expect perfection...maybe quality product, but there's never been perfection in any game. There's clipping , frame drops, weird AI, etc in ALL games...to say you expect perfection from Nintendo and one main developer in particular is placing too much. I guarantee we'll be able to find crud left in the game despite months of delays. Just the way things go...but they do typically make quality games...typically

I agree. No game's perfect. I also agree that (at least for me), it's usually easy for me to find the things I like in a game, and focus on them.
That said, I'd rather they take a little extra time and add polish that will make a game more fun, than rush something to market. There are limits, though, of course. I don't want to grow old waiting for a game to come out. :)

Maybe it's just me, but regardless of the individual ingredients, if the game made me skip the more important things I have to do, leaves a lasting impression and memories and presented me with my seamless ties to the real world (to become so involved in the game). Then it's perfect.
What would I class as perfect? Mario World, Lemmings 1+2, Turrican 2, Metroid Zero Mission, Twilight Princess.
Though I'm finding the Wii controls to involve me further into games...

I'm in no way advocating a rush...just saying that blind devotion to a particular company is silly. They do make lemons, they make mistakes, the leave in bugs...just like all the other companies (though certainly not as much as others)...they have every reason to get the mario and others out as quickly as possible...so for things to keep getting pushed back has me a bit worried on the front end more than excitement. Something wasn't working the way it should or there'd be more out. I'd be interested to see what's causing the delay in some of these games. Going from first quarter 07 to sometime in 07 is a big jump...how many times will they ask this of their loyal customers?

Nintendo's making a big stock deal, and they can't make any forward-looking statements that might suddenly change their stock value.

I would not say any game is 'perfect'.
As for Wii controls. When they work they are great.
When they dont! they do more for taking you out of the experience rather than immersing you in it.
Most Wii games upto this point have made it patently clear whilst your playing that your holding a nunchuck and wii remote and are trying to do two things at once. Your constantly being reminded of this control scheme and then it's not immersive.
Whereas the best game to utilise the remote, Wii Sports has you forgetting its a wii remote and actually makes you feel like its a bowling ball or tennis racket. That's true immersion.
But other than wii sports what other game has actually managed to do that ?

This is the most honest description of the Wii I have read so far. Other than Wii Sports every game I have played doesn't feel right at all. Wario comes a close second but that is it for me every other game I have played I have found the controls to be ... well ... horrible.

Reggie slaps Harrison right across the face
http://www.infendo.com/2007/03/gdc-fils-aime-owns-harrison.html
Chris Kohler, Game|Life:
Waiting for the Miyamoto keynote to start, I’m sitting three rows from the front. Close enough to see Nintendo’s resident BMOC, Reggie Fils-Aime at the front of the crowd, working it with his trademark smile and good will. He poses for pictures, he signs Wiimotes, he presses the flesh with a good natured ease that would make even the most seasoned politician weep with envy.
“Kick his ass and take his name!” someone shouted from a few rows behind me.
“Who?” answered Reggie in mid-autograph.
“Phil Harrison, front row!” Sure enough, there was Phil Harrison, seated dead center, front row. Looks like he could show up on time for Nintendo’s keynote, but not Sony’s.
With a grin and a chuckle, Reggie replies, “Some would say we’ve already done that.”
Touchdown. The crowd goes wild.
Truth hurts. But it's damn funny.

Although TP has been an absolute blast and easilly one of my favortie games, I was hoping for a another WW. If Nintendo doesn't do a true Wii version based on that style, I'll be bummed.

Haha! Exactly. I know Zelda isn't using the Wiimote realistically, but for some reason it's had me fixed on the screen, totally melting out the real world. No other Zelda has done that (even though I rate Links Awakening higher than TP). And if we're talking immersion... ooo Excite Truck takes the bait for me. Just yesterday the TV was free for 2 hours and I ended up forgetting all about time and them 2 hours just got lost in time. Games do not do this to me, or at least never did. I'll find myself slowly stretching my arms out closer to the TV or turning my whole body in sharp turns.
The scary thing is Excite Truck probably won't be that good compared to F-Zero or Mario Kart. That actually does scare me.

mmm did your copy come with a free pair of rose tinted spectacles or somthing ? ;)
A game that is based on racing and stunts but simply has very few of them other than spinning your car around in the air - which often does not work or kicks in way too late due to its imprecise control mechanic.
Yes the game is ok and works better than most games which add the nunchuck to the mix, but as a 'landmark' its not even close.
There is minimal depth (not enough courses, not enough stunts, not enough control, no online) and more often than not luck plays more important a role than either skill and strategy or how well you drived.
It's an above average game - I wont argue that. As a 6-7/10 game fair enough. But anything more than that......... no way.

That Reggie quote is funny. :D
Zelda's controls added a whole layer of fun for me and became second nature. They just feel right. My ideal Zelda would be Wind Waker's ever so present charm, but with TP's controls, but ehhanced even further, since the game would be honed from the ground up with them. The Wiimote would have made shooting the octapuss in WW much much easier. :)
I've had to put Zelda down for the past few weeks again, because I've been busy with projects and it consumes me to the point I don't want to stop. :( I need to manage my time better. Less forum posting, more game playing. :o
SuperGn'G and Kirby sucked up 7 hours of my time this week, speaking of being comsumed.
Too many games, not enough time.
