I'm looking to buy an inexpensive G4 laptop that I will be giving to a family member. His iBook G4's logic board went kaput, and the cost of the logic board plus installing it (he can't do it himself) is too much to justify doing it.

I'm wondering if anyone has an iBook G4 or PowerBook G4 they can let go to a college student at a really reasonable price (have mercy!). We don't really care if it's in perfect condition, it just has to work.

Thanks!

The best you can do is try checking Craigslist in your area. I just saw someone in Philadelphia selling one for 250.00 to bad I was to late on that deal.

he's usually got unnaturally good deals (I've bought 3 computers from him, and nary a problem).

Thanks, but that's pretty rich for our blood. That's a pretty nice system, but he can't even afford a refurb MacBook. He really just needs a basic laptop that will run OS X. He doesn't need that much RAM or a huge hard drive. To be honest, we're trying to keep it under $500, just to get him through the rest of college...I know that's not much, but we did spot a couple older PB G4 and iBook G4 on eBay that went for around $450-$550...we missed the auction on one we liked, but I wanted to try here first anyway.

techound1, thanks I'll take a look at that site.

I'd still appreciate anyone with an older G4 that's willing to meet our price range.

They're pretty cheap.

I bought a G3 800 MHz iBook with OS X, 30 GB HD and 256 RAM for $350 on ebay.

That should do the trick.
