what's your favorite mac you own or have owned?
what mac would you most want to have that you don't have in your collection now?

I love my Cube. But I'm pretty happy with the other Macs I have too.
I'd like to have an external monitor with the flexible arm design of the LCD iMac.
At the Washington Apple Pi Garage Sale yesterday, the table next to mine was showing a Twentieth Anniversary Mac, with a G3 update and all original boxes, manuals, parts etc. for $900. What a gorgeous machine... the sound system, the crisp bright screen, the keyboard with leather palm rests. If I didn't have the Cube and several other machines already, I'd have bought it.

Favorite Mac: Quadra 840AV. Amazing for its time. Top of the line before the arrival of the Power Mac. I felt like I could do anything!

well from playing with almost all the macs (g3 and up, too young to remember most before that) I can never pick a favorite. Probably my most favorite is the flat panel imac, i play with it all time and it just a computer I would love you have in every room for decoration. cube is one of apples greatest, had many flaws but it was a beatiful machine. I also the rube and sage imacs, i always wanted one on my desk because they were very good looking. Even though they arent my favorite, i do like my 12 inch powerbook and dual 1.25 with 20 inch monitor.

The flat-panel G4 iMac. All at once a powerful consumer-level computer and a beautiful piece of design work.

The favorite Macintosh that my family has owned is our G3 iMac 400 Mhz Digital Video Edition. It runs OS X just fine, despite that fact that many people say that machines like ours don't run OS X very well. I say that's balogna. The machine I'm most envious of would have to be either a Dual 1.42 Ghz PowerMac with a 23" Cinema Display or a 17" PowerBook.:cool::D:D

The G4 cube was seriously a work of art.
The original PowerMac B&W Case really got my attention because it really stood out for a tower and it was easy to open, but I really think the graphite PMac case was better looking. The flat panel iMac is probably the best looking desktop I have ever seen, it is so unique. The TiBook looks really good too but I have to say my favorite design is the white iBook. Everywhere I take mine it turns heads because it just looks so different from other laptops- and the glowing apple kicks ass.

Titanium Power book. I love the thing and even though its starting to show its age (Rev C, 667 MHz) it still gets an extra glance.....
And I like the Titanium over the new Aluminum - but I'm very curious over what the new 15" AlPB will be like.

My newest Mac, of course. It's so fast! Power Mac dual 1.25 2003. My previous Mac was an 8500. We also have a 466 iBook SE. Before my 8500 I had a Mac IIsi. I was blown away at the ability to run two programs at the same time. I spent hours and hours playing SimCity.
Before that I had a IIGS and before that a IIe.

the 6100 series were workhorses that never died. regardless of what kind of crazy/stupid things i did to my performa 6116 it never stopped running. the one i'd most like to add to the collection is the new 17in powerbook

The best lap top I have ever owned is my revB iTang.
The color looks better as it ages.
I need to upgrade to OSX, which it doesn’t handle well.
For now OS9 and my iTang are good company as I write and go through school.

I loved my //e and later my gs (Graphics and Sound or Granny Smith?).
Don't forget Archon, LoadRunner, and Ultima- they were just better on the ]['s.

My favorite Mac ever (and I've had a lot- I once owned a company that had more than 20) - is my current TiBook 800.
Second favorite- my old PowerBook 100. It was just so small and cool! At the time, of course.
Heh- black & white screen. Looking at images on AOL (pre-web, of course) was an exercise in imagination..."That sure LOOKS like...something..."
My favorite Mac-related thing ever is the Cinema Display HD I'm looking at right now. Best money I ever spent on a computer accessory (and I paid the original, full price).

CRT imac. A great value, a very cool and original design, and the machine that saved Apple. I'm not partial to the Bondi tho; the 5 "flavors" and graphite were better.

I remember working with MacPaint and Macwrite right out of high school in 1984 on the original 128k Mac. Being able to effortlessly draw on a computer, then have it print out on an ImageWriter in all it's dot-matrix glory was a revelation for me.
To think at the time the two computers that got all the buzz were IBM's PCjr, which disappeared quickly, and the Macintosh, which is still going strong. Makes you wonder about the Powers That Be in the computer world, and how much they really know...

(In no particular order..)
Mac LC - the first Mac I owned. After owning a machine with a whopping 16MHz of computing power, you have to laugh when you read people whining about 200MHz speedbumps! :)
Performa 6300 - First PowerPC. 'Nuff said! (Plus it had a TV and remote!)
iMac 17" - Stunning, practical, and not a bad performer. I've already got a few switchers from showing mine off!
Mike.

A big "hell yeah" to you cube owners, and to those, who put the Cube as one of their favorite macs.
Another "hell yeah" to you Titanium/Aluminum Powerbook owners, or for those, who added the Ti/Al to your list.
The Cube is a great, compact machine. It fits in a nice sized luggage case, and it is the most compact supercomputer that has no fan. That is technology.
The Ti/Al powerbooks are incredible machines. The Ti may scratch easily, but it has a brilliant form factor and makes PCs look ugly as hell. The Aluminum Powerbooks have a virtually perfect keyboard and make even Yao Ming feel big. :D

A big [blow] to the job for that little blurb at the end.
Although I have to agree with the Quicksilver. Nice solid form factor.
The original model was a convience to look at. The newer models are breathing.
I'm not sure if I would buy a recent QS to look at myself, though. :D

What if it had a 970? Eh? :p ;)
I wonder if you could gut an old Quicksilver for use with the 970. I guess if the motherboards are similar dimensions.

The Powermac 7500 was a real sweet spot, I thought. It was $1500, had one of the first cases that was easy to get into, very upgradeable. I put in a 604, bigger drive, more memory, and it competed well for several years until the B&W G3s. I think the G5s will hit a similar sweet spot next year.

1 GHz Titanium PowerBook, baby! This sucker is awesome! Fast, lightweight, beautiful. Everywhere I take, people are so amazed that it's actually a computer ("Are you sure? It doesn't look like a laptop."). Can't wait to see 15" AlBooks, but for now, and for awhile beyond, I'm sure, this is all I need.

Does a mac clone count? If it did, it wouldn't be my favorite anyway....on a whim and a budget crunch, I had bought a Power Computing clone in 1997, and boy was that a mistake. But I got my Lombard G3 Powerbook to make up for that....So far, that's my favorite -- the hot-swappable bays was/is a brilliant idea.

The Tangerine color is getting darker also. It looks good battle scars and all.
I also am looking at the 12"PB as a replacement. Apple won't run a three processer line for long, and I can't see staying with a G3 when there is a G5. I am not looking for a G5 PB, but would be happy with a G4 PB.

I never owned any particularily cool Macs, in my opinion- a Plus, an LC, a Quadra 660AV, a Moto StarMax 4000, and a desktop G3/233. Out of those, the Quadra and its robotic text-to-speech were probably the most fun.
I like cars and computers that are big, tough and considered ugly as sin by most other people. Therefore, my favorite Macs I've never owned are the Quadra 950, all of the third-party rackmountables (Sorry, Apple, less then 4U just doesn't do it for me) and the new G5. :)
