It is probable that Apple may come out with another Powerbook at Tokyo, because usually price drops result in anticipation for a newer product. Apple is doing it with their monitors as well. (If you purchase a new Quicksilver, you can place the 22 inch LCD monitor on the same order for $2000.) Apple may also come out with new monitors.

The price cuts are for the DVD-only models. The models with combo drives are still fully priced, although you can get a rebate if you went through the education website.

I think the new models are coming out soon, but I had already bought a 550/512 combo model a month ago.

Oh well, trying to stay will technology is like trying to change a wheel on a moving car . . .

It's also possible that the TiBook price drops happened to keep them competitive. They were arguably overpriced before. But yes, they are definitely due for an update anyway - the sooner the better. They could really use faster CPUs and graphics chips, although barring a few tiny other tweaks I don't know how else they could be improved. USB/Firewire 2, maybe... or the reintroduction of zoomed video support... better AirPort range... quieter fan... changing the battery latch so it gets pushed inwards rather than pulled outwards... that's all I can really think of.

I will cross my fingers and hope for Ultra160 SCSI. :) (<--- Joke)

in the apple store the powerbook section nolonger has the "new" bubble next to them. The imac, powermac, and ibook do however. Maybe this is a sign pointing towards new powerbooks, but then again it might just be a sign that they are in fact OLD.

then the rumors will start flaring around MacWorld time....

we'll start seeing 3D renderings of stupid & crazy looking stuff...

...that we're going to see new PBs at MWT. I think it's more likely that we'll see a new iPod and OS X.2 (12 on the OSX clock). Then at MWNY we'll see new powermacs and/or new powerbooks.

General krossfyter just took the words out of my mouth! There is nothing wrong with black!

A reflective black coating will work very nicely. It makes the Ti look much more prominent, compared to the silver Titaniums. If anyone else agrees with reflective black titanium . . . better start a poll!

If apple does come out with another black powerbook...being that the g3 one was black...it is going to be different looking...not just because it would be titanium black but because apple and different are synonymous.

On the other hand...if they go ti-chrome...which is more like a fun idea for me rather than a practical idea for them then im sure that it will be the baddest looking chrome machine out there. something that the terminator would be proud of.

The slot load strawberry............ugh.....I was at flint center for the release keynote. Under those theatre lights it had a freakin pink Halo around it. I literally stopped and cleaned my glasses, but nope...it still glowed. Barbie stinkin pink.
