Apple at Macworld Creative Pro

Several readers note that Greg Joswiak, Vice President of hardware and product marketing at Apple will be delivering the "opening feature presentation" (http://www.businesswire.com/cgi-bin/f_headline.cgi?bw.061603/231675414) at Macworld CreativePro Conference & Expo.

The Macworld CreativePro expo takes the place of the summer MacWorld Expo, which has traditionally been a launching point for new products from Apple. With the recent restructuring of the summer Expo, there has been doubts about the level of Apple's involvement.

That looks promising. I wish i could go to the expo because it is near my birthday... but it won't happen :(. Oh well, as long as the 970 is announced.... :). Best wishes...

Very interesting. I see no reason why they'd have a hardware guy speak without new hardware out. I doubt he'll talk about iPod or Airport. With the transmitted keynote and a speech @ MWNY this could signal Apple really pushing their new technology.

If a whole new lineup of all their machines is introduced (I'm hoping for this, but don't think it's really going to happen) then the last half of the year could be interesting. Let's see if Apple will incease its share of the market.

This is very good news. The Big A needed to represent at this, otherwise they would be dissing the NYC creative pro population, which would not be a good thing.

So is "Joz" as he's called kinda like a cross between Jobs and Woz? Heheh...!

Interesting This could very well mean that the 970's will not be released at WWDC, and will be released at Creative Pro. I for one wouldn't be surprised. As a long time MacWorld attendee, I will be going to Creative Pro. I will not be attending WWDC, as I am not a developer. I would be very surprised IF Apple released new hardware at WWDC. Then again, I've been surprised before...

Yes, i guess you are right. There wouldn't be a whole lot of reason for introducing a new chip at a "CreativePro". I would expect a new chip to be announced at the developer conference more than a conference aimed at creative professionals. Of course, it could be an incentive for the pros to switch to the 970, but they probably wouldn't switch till there were some good programs optimized for 64 bit. Hmmm. Sorry if that wasn't coherent, but i am prettty tired... and stupid summerschool..... geez.

I think it will be a recap of the hardware presented at WWDC. Apple wants to get away from the shows. That's why they're doing the streams in their stores. By going to creative pro, Apple is just slowly phasing out introductions at trade shows. They have to make a small presence and I beleive this is what it is.

Not a chance. The name has been changed to CreativePro for a reason. It is geared toward creative professionals. It is not the ideal launching ground for something as big as the 970.

Couple of thoughts/notes...

This is NOT a "keynote" presentation. It's a "feature" presentation. Unlike Steve's Keynotes, which is limited to conference attendees, feature presentations are open to all attendees (this is per the macworldexpo web site). So this is good, meaning everyone can go see it.

At the same time, I just don't see any major announcements being done by anyone other than Steve. No matter what he thinks about the show you know he doesn't want anyone else being the first to show off the new toys.

So my theory is no major new hardware announcements at MacWorld. Maybe some speed bumps or other little things. But the big stuff will come at WWDC or some other time either before or after MacWorld.

hardware guy. Even though we can reasonably believe that Apple's hardware woes are the fault of Motorola, perhaps he will explain what happened with Motorola and why it didn't work out. Whatever. Why have a hardware guy do the "opening feature presentation"? Why not have Jonathon Ives do it? He's closer to what the show is about. But he's more hardware design related as well, why not get a print/web designer who really likes his/her Mac a whole bunch...why not me? I'll work for a free 970! (Whenever they're shipping). Sounds good to me.

Next to developers, creative pros are the most likely group to purchase new and improved Apple hardware.

Joz is there to show off the new line of shiny new Apple machines to Apple's targeted audience ~ creative pros.

well considering that creative pros (which include print, video, audio, multimedia) are the main people who will buy the Power Macs, it seems fairly appropriate.

but as others have noted, I think this will be more of a recap, an extra plug. Apple's commitment to this event has been minimal and only recently have they expressed interest in it so I doubt they'll announce anything big.

Jobs wouldn't miss being on stage for the largest round of applause EVER in the history of keynotes...!

Thus, 970s at WWDC... at least demo'd, if not released. This fella at Creative Pro is just batting cleanup.

You think Steve would let anyone other then himself announce the 970?!!?

Guys, this just means nothing big at MWNY. Steve would be doing the keynote if so. This means MWNY will suck or at least will not have enough glory for Steve to be there.

That's 100% correct, no way in hell would Steve let someone else announce the 970!!

What would make since, is to annouce the 970, at WWDC and show the new 970 "Powermacs" at the MWNY using Panther. Since the new 15" Powerbooks will have already been shown at WWDC.

I'm sure there will be a hugh amount of question regarding the 970 at the WWDC, so they have to say something!!!

Interesting. I would have expected someone to get up there and play nicey nice with Quark, and someone else to play nicey nice with Adobe, and then someone else to show off FCP4. I certainly wouldn't expect a big announcement without Jobs, but maybe a detailed discussion of the features of the new 970s, along with some display and input device introductions?

It makes perfect sense for Steve to announce the move to 64-bit chips at WWDC. Showcase Panther and new opportunities for developers to write programs for 64-bit chips.

Let's say for the sake of argument that CreativePro rolls around just about the time the new Power Macs (Powerbooks?) are ready to ship and Joswiak gives the feature presentation to the people who are most likely to buy these new fast machines.

Many rumor sites have indicated that the 970's are not ready to ship en masse for WWDC which ties in perfectly to this timeline.

Steve gets to break the news about the 970 and perhaps show us a demo machine and then everyone at CreativePro gets to take it on a test drive with Joswiak.

Another likely scenario is that the 970 Power Macs are debuted at WWDC and the 970 PB's at CreativePro.

There is no doubt in my mind however that Steve will be making the first 970 announcement.

I'm still up in arms about visiting, I feel it will be more oriented towards one sector(which it is) If I do go, I hope to bring you MWCE movie just like last year at MWNY. If they announce the release of the 970 at WWDC I will definantly go to MWCE to get film for all of u!
