I hope that at least CNN will re-broadcast it again this time. Nothing like watching an Apple keynote on MSN Media player...

I actually think it will be more fun to be in the MacRumors IRC channel while refreshing every rumor site ever 5 seconds rather than to watch the keynote in an Apple Store. :)
Oh god, I am in denial.

I could justify going to Emeryville to watch the keynote before going to a client site in Oakland, but that Apple Store is too small for a theater.
Palo Alto and San Jose Valley Fair are too far out of the way.
Guess I'll be on IRC instead.

Apple's theater page doesn't say anything about carrying the keynote. None of the stores' calendars mention it either. Calling the stores was the only way to confirm it.
Keynote Starting Times:
PDT (UTC-7): 10:00 AM
MDT (UTC-6): 11:00 AM
CDT (UTC-5): 12:00 PM
EDT (UTC-4): 1:00 PM
UTC: 5:00 PM

WWDC's Keynote will be broadcast to certain Apple Stores as well as by Satellite.
I believe most Apple stores (if not all) get their feed for these special events via satellite. So any store with an operational dish should be showing it. I don't know of any stores (nor have I heard rumors of any) which only get their special event feeds via land lines.

Why the hell does Dallas have 2 apple stores within 10 miles of each other?
I have yet to see the Knox Street store but the Willow Bend one is nice.
Abstract

Anyway, thanks to the guy who spent 15 hours of his life calling all of those stores. Thanks...........and seek help (jk). :p
And they should really list the availability of the satellite feed in each store on the Apple website. If they're not going to webcast the event, at least take the responsibility to make sure people know where to go if they wish to enjoy the broadcast. Its a real pain in the butt for anyone to go through this much effort to give us this info. Thanks again for the info.

I think that any of the Apple stores with theatres in them will be showing it, but that's my assumption.
I like it when it's a store event because then you get a bunch of us all cheering, clapping and "oooo and ahhhh"ing at everything. It's like a little Apple party.
I'll be at the Pasadena Apple store to watch. Anyone else going to be there?

Out here in southern California, the Fashion Island and South Coast Plaza Apple Stores are also both within very short driving distance from me (only a few miles). Both of these malls are "high end" (shoppers have lots of $$), so I guess Apple feels it's worth it to be in both spots. The stores themselves are virtually identical (both with theaters).

my work is right across from the Short Hills Mall in NJ..
I have training that day.. all day.. and get lunch at 12:00...
I think I may have to become a little sick after lunch... ;)
Last Apple event the staff in the mall was clueless to what was going on..
I showed up at the store and was asking about the 12" Powerbook and they had no idea what I was talking about..
That really made me feel like a geek..

Jun 18, 2003, 07:17 PM
Anybody know how full the SoHo store gets for these events. Will you be able to get within a 100 yards of the place? My guess is not.
I'll just be patient. After watching previous webcasts, I invariably end up thinking..."I've just wasted two hours for that..." - even when they announce something great. All they are is glorified marketing events. You never find out all the real details/specs outside Steve and Phil's reality distortion field 'til later anyway.
<grit teeth> be patient...

Jun 18, 2003, 07:17 PM
If Apple don't webcast the event then we all know they are not going to release the PPC970 their. If they dont do it there then it looks like we will have to wait until MacWorld SF 2004.
However, I expect Apple to announce the event at the last moment because they have never webcasted WWDC before and it would be like admitting the release of PPC970 machines.

Not necessarily. The iTMS launch was a big event, and it didn't have a live webcast from Apple (stream provided after the fact).
Also, if they don't announce the 970s at WWDC, they can always hold a special press event, just like the iTMS or Xserve announcements. They certainly won't have to wait until MWSF.

When I called the Bellevue store, the guy who answered said "try to call back the morning of the keynote, we're hoping they're gonna stream it over the web."
I asked whether they had a satellite, and they said no. I said, "So unless they webcast it to everyone, you won't be showing it, right?"
He said, "Right."
they were by far the least clear. That's why I put them down as "Not showing," because as of this moment, they aren't.

here's the scoop:
the larger stores with theaters will be showing the broadcast via satellite. stores without theaters do not have satellite.
the only exception is short hills in new jersey. they have a theater but do not have satellite. if there is a web stream, i bet they'll show it. if not, then the keynote will not be shown there. (sounds like he may have talked to someone at the store who was misinformed.) i think the list should be amended.
for mwsf, the theater/satellite stores showed the broadcast via satellite, and the stores without theater/satellite broadcast the webstream.
stores without theaters, like millenia, are listed on the theater page as they do still have presentations and workshops.
locations other than apple stores will not being showing the event unless there is a public webstream.
keynote broadcasts are nowhere near as popular as the evening events which have discounts and giveaways. still, if you want a seat, you should show up an hour early.
i hope this helps to clear things up. you can refer to this info for all future keynotes as well.

< extreme kidding on >
Wow! Almost all the Mac stores with theaters have their own satellite? That's why Macs cost more! When Apple puts in a Mac store they buy, launch and operate a satellite for each one. At $200+ million for build, launch, insure, one year of opreations, etc. for a modern commecial communications satellite that's a huge investment for Apple!
< extreme kidding off >
(It's what I do in real life -- design, build and launch special geostationary satellites -- so the phrasing by mac cutie above just struck me as very, very funny. I just couldn't resist commenting!)

I'll probably be heading down to the Biltmore in Arizona, is anyone else going to be there? I didn't think there was as big a Mac following in Arizona, but does anyone know if it would be crowded there?

Its a bummer the the Bay Street store in Emeryville is not broadcasting. Living in the North Bay of San Francisco bay area, it is the closest easiest to get to.
Come on Steve, show it at Bay Street.
Hopefully they'll provide a feed online.

Wow! Almost all the Mac stores with theaters have their own satellite?

someone is a smarty pants!
the use of "satellite" to denote "satellite uplink" or "satellite dish" has entered the vernacular and is in very common use. better get used to it!

Yeah, that's why when I'm at social events and I tell people what I do they often ask if I can get them a really good deal on one of those. I have to then explain, "No, I do the other end. The pieces about 22,300 miles above the equator".

Hey, it would be great if any/everyone from macrumors picked a corner and just hung out and talked to kill the time. If anyone is familiar with the layout of the store, pick a spot and I'll be there!:D
