I received a 4Gb Ipod Nano as a gift, along with a Nike Sport kit. I already have the exact same products, so I was hoping to return the two items to an Apple store for credit. (I can't let the person who gave me the gift know I am doing this since they will feel terrible they got me somethign I didn't need!)
No go they said-despite the fact that UPC/price stickers are on both unopened packages, they scanned it and said it wasn't purchased from them.
Is there ANY store I can return this gift to with no gift receipt, and get a credit?
Thanks!!

I don't think you can return it without a receipt. Your best bet is probably ebay or something but you won't get full credit. Maybe you know someone who wants a ipod nano and you can sell it to them? Or just talk to your friend and tell them you already have it. It's not like you're saying: omg, what were you thinking? I hate it!

You didn't hear this from me, but if you go to one of the big box retailers(which is probably where it was purchased from in the first place), they will probably give you a store credit for the return.

I thought BestBuy and Circuit city required receipts?
Anyone successfully return something for store credit with no receipt?

All I can suggest is that you try places like BestBuy, Target and maybe some local stores where the manager has discretion and be honest. Tell them it was an unwanted, unopened gift and you'd like to return it for store credit.
It's very unlikely that anyplace will give you cash.
BTW - don't sell your friend short. By telling them you already have it you are letting them know they have great taste and really know you. If he/she gets pissed at your honesty, find a new friend.

Try target. I accidently bought a few DVD's earlier this week in fullscreen format instead of widescreen. I threw out the receipt as usual. When I went to exchange them they took them back and gave me a store credit connected to my drivers license number. They said that they will only do that twice a year.
