View Full Version : How much is this worth? Mac Pro

I'm finished doing what I needed to do on my Mac Pro (encoding 1.2TB of 720p videos, and rendering a few blender jobs) ...
I'm just wondering how much I could sell it for and whether or not I should keep it. I like video games, and I could build a ridiculous PC with this kind of cash. Of course, I'd be using Linux for everything but games, and Windows for games and only games. I dunno, what do you think?
2.66Ghz
4GB of Apple's RAM
250GB
750GB
750GB
750GB
Bluetooh+Airport
Geforce 7300GT
2 x Superdrives
23" ACD
It's like a month old.

Why get rid of something so awesome? ........ It's the dog's bo**ocks and will remain so for quite a few years. :)

Well, I need to fulfill a promise that I will continue my old WolfET clan (yes, I'm a dork like that) in ET:QW ... I can't even play Quake 4 on here effectively. It has enough to max out Quake 3 but that's about it.
If I could use an 8800 video card in OS X that would be one thing, but that won't change the fact that it has slow RAM.

I'm not a "games player" ....... all I want is a fast, reliable computer and OS. Unfortunately I tried various PC's over a 20 year period but could never find one that fitted my requirements  .......... Then I discovered Mac's :)
My Mac pro is awesome for Photoshop and Final Cut (my main uses) as well as all the other usual things.
If I was selling a computer with your spec I would like to think it would be worth around £3000.

If I build it on Apple.com it's:

+ tax would be like $6190.
But that's brand new, this is like a month old. I still owe $1500 on it. :o
I dunno, how much do you think it being used for 1 month would bring it down in value?

I would expect to lose around $500

I'm gunna do it. It's for sale. :o
I bit off more than I could chew ... I could sell it, pay it off, build a badass PC and have lots of money left over.
Any want to buy it? :)

It's gonna be more than that. Don't forget... "Apple" RAM and "Apple" hard drives aren't worth much in real world value.
I'd say, somewhere between $4000 and $4500 is what you're looking at getting.

One option is to stick a 8800 in there and only use it when you're using Windows over Bootcamp. It works perfectly :)

I'm sure the Radeon 1900 or whatever is way better than the 7300GT also. And they could release new graphic cards for the mac pros @ wwdc. then you could buy one and the drivers would work correctly.
