Ok, get this. Tonight, i'm going to see REM in one of the smallest gigs they've done in the uk for years; one of 2 shows. REM are my all time favourite band.

So i wake up this morning and guess what?! I have an ear infection; can't hear a peep in my right ear; there's a possibility i may not even go to the gig as i could literally kill my ear.

I've been waiting for this gig for months and i'm sooooo gutted that i'll only be able to hear half of it, if anything at all!!!

Grr :(

You wouldn't be in the market to sell those tickets by any chance, would you? ;)

I'll bet you're just gutted about that. Can't you put in some ear plugs with vaseline, or something like that? It'd be a shame to miss out on this gig (although perhaps not worth losing your hearing!)

oh dude...that sucks... :(

but think about it...

maybe it's a sign that u shouldn't be going...like it's stopping something worse from happening?

fate could be dealing a good card disguised and u wouldn't know it... ;)

update:

i can go! it will help my ears (apparently). Turns out its just overly waxy because i've had a cold - got some drops - doc said to stand close to the front to shake the wax out of my ear.

WOOHOO! REM AS A MEDICINCE

i always said it :)

if you're worried that the wax won't dislodge itself during the evening, there's something you can do beforehand that's almost guaranteed to work. Find a homeopathic ear-candle specialist (i'm not kidding)... they use a special type of candle with a shaft running through it that gently heats and draws things out of one's ear. There's one here in Iowa that does farmers (ok i'll admit it, we have farmers in iowa), she's talked about women dragging their husbands in, the husbands don't know anything's wrong... and they extracted dead insect carcasses, dirt, wax... eww...

it's like $60 for one session around here...

hey, i'd do it for REM :)

Get hot water out of the tap and add a little hydrogen peroxide. Then use a medicine dropper to put some drops in your ear while lying on the other side. Let it bubble for a while, then use the dropper to suction the crud out and squirt it into a trash bin. Repeat four or five times. This is what I have found to work the best.

Actually, I had a similar experience a few months ago that I posted about. I had clogging in one of my ears, ended up going to the doctor because I didn't know what to do about it & it was disrupting my sleep. It was just some fluid & ended up clearing up after a few days.

Glad to hear u are doing better...no pun intended. ;)

Don't do anything until you go to the doctor and get professional advice. Its not worth it to mess around with 'quick' fixes. And you never know, it might be something minor and easily fixed.

Good luck,

D

Looks like the doctor is the one who told him to go to the concert as that will help him...

Myself, I've had this problem quite a few times, once I couldn't hear in one year for a week! Maybe I should've just gone to a rock concert, hehe.

I had an ear infection a couple of weeks back. It was exceptionally painfull. I had these really stong steriod/anti-biotic ear drops that did the trick though :)

You're in for a treat, I was there last night at the Academy, they were excellent, it was a real greatest hits show, and they played like they really meant it, "Everybody Hurts" just tore the place apart, it was stunning.

I saw them at Earl's Court last year (?) and I thought they were just marking time, but this was one of the best gigs I've seen.

Magnificent.

earls court was '99 !! i was there - great show wasn't it? yeah - last night was mind blowing - my pics + the setlist are here

as for my ears - i've woken up this morning and the problem that i had in my right ear is now in my left ear. It feels like i've got two pillows attatched to either side of my head. Got some drops (urea + hydrogen peroxide - niiiiiiiiiiiice) but they don't seem to be helping, only making it worse if anything! In the uk, you can't get yours ears syringed unless you've been using drops for 5 days, so i'm going in next week. Bleuch. what a manky thread!

ah, its good to be back - had a couple of weeks break from the boards as i was getting a little distracted by it, but i sure have missed you guys ;)

Very different set list, they played a few the same but seem to change it around, I heard they rehersed 75 songs for the tour, so they could chop and change at will.

Micheal Stipe was as animated as I've ever seen him, I thought he was very distracted at Earls Court.

Nice to see them remembering the punk roots:D

i've heard about that - supposedly very effective. I don't know of any places that do it round by me, but london is just 25mins away so worth looking into i suppose. Ta!

going offline for a while - time to do the routine format of WinXP (grrrr)
