I did a trade for a Nvidia graphics card for my PowerMac G3 with a IBM Thinkpad R15. I shipped it out over a month ago and even though the graphics card has been delayed in being sent out.

How much more time should I wait for a trade to be finalized? I suppose that over a month is taking way too long?

I do keep in touch with the bartering end but no results in getting a tracking number yet :(

Yeah, I think over a month is to long if the package is being shipped within the United States. Good luck on your transaction!

Yikes. Have you tried PMing him? He responded to my PM rather quickly, as I'm waiting on a package, too.

In my book anything over 11 days is too long.

Once you complete the deal the person has 3 days to ship it, parcel post service across the US is a week. That's eleven. Anything more and someone is slacking.

Yes, I get PM's from him every once in awhile saying that he has been too busy and what not. Granted, I enjoy giving a grace period but right now I'm working on this project that requires the part and I guess that my patience is running out :(.

Seriously, it can't be all that difficult to pack up and mail and send me a tracking number. Frustrating!

Huh. The odd thing is he's still very active on the forums. If he was being shady or dishonest you'd expect him to lay low... either way, it's been too long and you need some resolution to the situation.

The one bad experience I've ever had on MR marketplace was with a 17 year who sold me two sticks of ram "AS IS" but who swore they worked. That didn't turn out well and since I always check a person's age before I get involved in a transaction. Most people around here are good neighbors, but you can't trust those darn teenagers.

I've bought things before and have been told that they were "lost" in the mail, never really sure if the person was just lying to me or what... but I've shipped a lot of stuff in my life but have never had anything lost.

Maybe he needs some nudging by other forum members?

Yeah, should I expose him by revealing his identity or would that cause a ruckus?

That's why ebay gets harangued too...

Do it! Do it! Do it!

I'll be glad to PM him... although, I thought I knew who it was and now I guess I don't.

Either way.. expose this non-mailing, marketplace shaming, son of a mac'n tosh!

I'm a teenager. But I've sold a few things over this forum and I have just stated the standard allow 3 days to ship items, just like I would on eBay, but I packed the items professionally and they were shipped with a tracking number most of the time. I would say this is my standard formula on limits for shipping: 3-5 days to ship the items (unless stated otherwise), a week to ship (at most). Everyone should know that shipping parcel post is a bad idea, but the other person (assuming it is Reanimation) is still pretty active, or more active then I am on this forum, but laziness isn't an excuse.

If the seller has time to be active(waste) on this forum, then they're lying about having time constraints. Most large cities have 24/7 post office hours, and you can even get USPS, UPS, FedEx, or DHL to pick up your package at home, work, etc.. IMO, a month is way too long to wait for a package.

Once I did a trade on here and got ripped off a bit. The guy was sending a PC tower and CRT monitor in trade for my iMac G4. According to post office records, he never shipped the monitor. Also the tower arrived with a broken GPU. I contacted him and he told me he shipped the monitor and if I didnt receive it he'd collect the insurance for it. He also shipped me a much cheaper graphics card to test and see if the GPU was really the problem. I did receive the cheap GPU in the mail and it worked. He asked when I was going to send it back. I told him I'd send it back as soon as i recieved compensation for the CRT and broken GPU (or suitable replacements) or as soon as I received word that the shipping insurance claim had been filed. I never heard from DougTheImpaler again. He had good heatware, good forum references, etc...

He'd been communicating well the whole time, but then screwed me over. I tried emailing him a bunch of times with no result. He either stopped using his chat screennames or he blocked me. He stopped posting on the forums altogether too, and he'd been a regular member before that.

always look to Swingers for your answers.....

Mike: So how long do I wait to call?
Trent: A day.
Mike: Tomorrow.
Sue: Tomorrow, then a day.
Trent: Yeah.
Mike: So two days?
Trent: Yeah, I guess you could call it that, two days.
Sue: Definitely, two days is like industry standard.
Trent: You know I used to wait two days to call anybody, but now it's like everyone in town waits two days. So I think three days is kind of money. What do you think?
Sue: Yeah, but two's enough not to look anxious.
Trent: But I think three days is kind of money. You know because you...
Mike: Yeah, but you know what, mabey I'll wait 3 weeks. How's that? And tell her I was cleaning out my wallet and I just happened to run into her number.
Charles: Then ask her where you met her.
Mike: Yeah, I'll ask her where I met her. I don't remember. What does she look like? And then I'll asked if we ****ed. Is that... would that be... T, would that be the money?
Trent: You know what. Ha ha ha Mike, laugh all you want but if you call too soon you might scare off a nice baby who's ready to party.
Mike: Well how long are you guys gonna wait to call your babies?
Trent, Sue: Six days.

i hope that helps!

Not cool. You should bring it up in every thread he posts in until you get it. He has plenty of time to post here. Maybe even contact the admins. Maybe I'm just a vindictive dick, but he should be banned from selling here for awhile, maybe permanently. If he's going to do stuff like this, he gives the whole marketplace a bad name.

Wow, I cant believe I didnt notice this one, nor your latest PMs.

Heh, I'll be perfectly honest with you. This entire thing and situation has really slipped my mind as of late due to how stressful my life has been currently.

I never got the stickers for the plates. They were going to be given to me by a friend so I could get my car temporarily (but rather illegally) on the road again, so I can get around and back to work again (Not that the tags actually matched the vechile anyhoo, they were from my other car that died, that was the same exact make, model, and year, just different color, and I couldnt renew/transfer them due to the fact that I had some insurance violation back from 1999 ((we didnt even own a car then)), and I couldnt get the blue van to pass the state inspection because I bought it for around 400 dollars, it had an overheating problem (apparently was mixing anti-freeze with water, flushed and filled with straight anti-freeze and it works great) and it had a 14" crack in the windshield on the passenger side. Of course, without a reliable source of transportation, my job cut my hours. Immensely, I got cut down to 6 hours a week on Saturday. (Luckily my mom doesnt work, my sisters work is less than a half mile from the house, and my brother gets lifts from his boss, then theres me, whos job is a half an hour car ride from the house) Because money has been tight, I've been only paying for my rent, electric, and Comcast bill, since Comcast is my cable TV, phone, and internet. I just today, finally got the windshield replaced, as SafeLite started running a 44% off online coupon for replacements, cutting the costs from 380-something to about 210. Now I just have to figure out how to as cheaply as possible get it to an MD inspection site, then get new tags for it, and move my insurance over.

After seeing this thread, I blinked a lot, then remembered : Durr, I never got to ship it out. I've misplaced the card (My room is a mess with computer parts everywhere), but I'm going to stay up all tonight until its found, so I can give it to my brother to mail out (Apparently he works near some kind of Mail Boxes ETC and never told me beforehand until my mom mentioned it this morning) If I cant find the card, I'll repack back up the laptop and ship it back. I'd hate to do so, even though it wasnt exactly as described, with the whole green line LCD issue, I still wanted you to get that card, and I still want you to.

Because the only box I have in my room is pretty roomy with the card in it, is there anything else you could use for your Blue G3? Like some more RAM? Or any other Mac or PC need any RAM? I have a lot of 168-pin DIMMs, both PC100/133 and EDO/FPM, and a ton of 72-pin SIMMs, that I'd be willing to throw in some for being such an asshat and forgetting completely.

I really feel like complete and utter crap for all of this. And before anyone asks, I'm not making this crap up. God, I wish I wasnt. Getting this car legal driving me up a wall, but if I dont, I'll be canned from my job if another store meeting happens (Can never find anyone willing to give me a ride to them)

I'm going to go back to looking and picking up around my room. Sorry again.

EDIT - Yay. My car will be tagged by the end of next week, so I wont get laid off. And I found the card :D.

Just a hint that I've picked up during my life... customers do not want excuses, they want solutions.

No matter how much better it makes you feel.. instead of saying "I'm sorry I didn't ship that... I forgot and my car doesn't have tags." offer "I'm very sorry this has happened and I'd like to make it up to you... I will ship it out tomorrow via next day FedEx." Do not give excuses why it happened.. just apologize and then fix the problem.

This gives the customer resolution and an answer and makes them feel better. Your answer still makes him feel like he's dealing with an out of control teenager who he still can't trust.

Hey, I've done biz with ReanimationLP before and it was perfection.

On MR, we are a group of people who love Apple -- not "customers" or "salespeople"...

ReanLP is not a full time salesman or store, neither am I, so hold off on the retail sales type criticism here. I'm not excusing his tardiness, but he is not a rip off artist. Nor is he a full time retail store, so cut him the slack.

My advice doesn't just apply to salesman or stores, it applies to anyone selling something. You may or may not agree with me, but customer satisfaction is not a result of poor performance and excuses. You might not consider yourself a "salesman" but the other members are certainly "buyers" and as such the deserve to be treated right.

I didn't accuse ReanLP of being a ripoff artist, I simply offered him some advice on how to correct the problem he's created. He can take it or leave it but his lack of attentiveness will certainly make it harder for him to sell things here in the future.

So did you ship out the video card today ReanLP?

I completely understand what you're saying, but at the same time, California is right.. none of us here are professional salesmen. Although there is still etiquette to follow, we're only human - and sometimes mistakes are made. It'd be one thing if ReanLP was a noob or scamming constantly, but this is his first slip up in a long time of trading here on MR.. I think we can all cut him some slack. As far as making excuses, I think the OP deserved to know what exactly happened, and I think ReanLP was justified in explaining his situation. ReanLP is trying to make things right by apologizing, explaining, and offering the OP additional items for free, and since the OP doesn't even sound as upset as you are, maybe you should cool it a bit... since ultimately, this is just between them two.

It is our business if you're going to be selling here and we're potential buyers. And as I said, it looks bad for the whole forum. If PA was less patient, especially if he was a newbie or someone who didn't post enough to know you, this could have reflected poorly on all of us.

But if PA is fine with it, and you are shipping the item, we'll drop it.

Yeah, that was never described to me originally.

Luckily, the LCD screen is a cheap part.

I gave the laptop to my little brother as a gift. It was an improvement over his old screen. His cord got wrapped around it and tugged his to the ground off of his desk, shattering the LCD.

So, I suppose a green line is an improvement over a completely trashed LCD. :D

Yep, that's alright. I don't mind waiting for the video card... although hopefully it won't be a 6 month lag time :D

On the other hand, I did the switcharoo for my friend last night. She wanted to get into video editing and I ended up switching her from her Acer laptop (which I got) to her new beautiful 20" iMac...

Talk about the powers of being a Machead :D woot!
