I apologize if this post in not appropriate.
I am a high school student looking for a laptop/portable computer that I can use for research and education. I'm working on compsci research and am looking for a portable system I can use to write software. Unfortunatly I don't have any funds/money to work with. PC or Mac. 400mhz for either pc or mac would be sufficient. If you have anything of this nature that can be donated, please let me know.
Perhaps one of you have switched and no longer have use for your pc notebook, or have an old mac that needs a new home that can make use of it.
Again, I apologize if this post in not appropriate. If what I'm asking for is ludacris, also let me know ;) so I don't make such requests again.

isnt that the guy who attempted to scam with a my mac was stolen on ebay deal?
Solus, don't take the above statement offensively, or feel that this implies you are a scam, I just wanted to clear up your question on 'who' 'travis' was.

I'm just trying to get a comp I can do research on - write apps to predict structures of protein. Doesn't have to be anything high power, really. ...300,400mhz...

You just started a post saying you're buying a PDA. Did you suddenly come into money in the last couple of days?
Definitely a Travis:

Sorry kid, no sympathy here.

Yes, actually, I did. I sold a few things that I didn't need, and was able to come up with some money. I also got a job. A lot can happen in 3 weeks, my friend.
BTW, great community you have here in macrumors. Jump directly to conclusions and start accusing newbies to the forum of being scams. Perhaps the mac community isn't as great as I thought. It’s probably just the imbeciles that making the rest look bad. Always a few of those in every community... I really hope its not all of you.

Didn't mean to come off as a jerk, but when you come in here asking people to give you something for free you're asking for it. Community or not, we don't even know you, and some of us are struggling as well.
Never said you were scamming, just was inappropriate.

Just letting you know.

Already tried, but it's closed. :(
Sorry again kid, but welcome to the MR anyway.
(you do realize the main reason I gave you a hard time was because our names are so similar. Stupid, yes, but I really don't want anyone to get us confused)
Perhaps I should have simply said that this is inappropriate. Not all Apple lovers are as big a jerk as I am, but just to warn you, some are worse. If you can't stand the heat...

Oh no, it gets much worse than that. This is a public forum, after all. Moderated, or not.
Just a warning, it could have been worse.
Try going to a PC forum and making the same request.
