All you guys down there in LA - getting ready for the flooding? This is only the second storm this season and its making landfall (although right now its just a tropical storm).

Eyelikeart - lets see some pics if you get a chance! :D

ha ha...if there's one thing about photographers...it's always about getting the shot! ;)

Seriously though, it's raining here, and it will for the next few days. This storm isn't much of a threat to us, as it's pretty weak. I'll post anything interesting happening, but so far it's just another day at the office. So far, nothing like last year's back to back storms to hit. Those were threatening, but proved to be nothing terrible once they hit landfall.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I didn't bring my camera with me today. It would make for some decent shots, as it floods in this part of town easily. :D

Its not a really big storm - 70 mph winds - so I'd expect it would be more of a nuisance than anything more dangerous.

And I hope you all weather the storm safely....:D

Exactly. If it were bad even, I'd do the same thing I did last year: crack open a bottle of red & enjoy soak up the weather & spirits. :D

U guys should see some of the hurricane parties that get thrown. ;)

Our weathman talked about Bill last night, always wonder why NE is so focused. We are only expecting some rain. He said gee, "Here's one that we can pronounce.!" :p

I hope that all of you in LA will be safe. Please keep is posted!

Well I just got the word that we're shutting down the office for today. I'll be heading home in a minute. The Mayor of New Orleans also ordered all city employees to go home as well.

Looks like I'll have a day of green zen tea & Macrumors... ;)

And hopefully things don't get too bad...good luck!

Kind of early in the year for this sort of storm, isn't it? Sat out several during my North Carolina days. I have to admit, I love storms.

Actually, no. Hurricane season started a couple weeks ago, so we're right at the begining. ;)

There's been a slight bit of flooding going on, but mostly it's been nothing. Took me about 45 mins to make it home due to a couple stops from a wrecked & stalled car. Guess I'll just play around till later on, then go back to work in the morning. :D

The weather got pretty rainy here. It didn't get terrible around where I live, but we had a few power outages.

During one of them, sitting outside was more comfortable with the breeze than inside with no AC. So, while sitting around, all of a sudden I notice this weird red hue that comes over the atmosphere, lighting up everything in a very weird way. The color shifts to yellow a bit, then back to red again.

The center of the storm was right over. Keep in mind, these are during the span of about 30 mins. The pink color u are seeing is clouds, not sunset.

well Bill was a breeze (stupid pun intended :) )

I got a day off of work... the worst part was the drive home. I have to cross the Causeway... which is 25+ miles over open water... it got a little dicey towards the end. It was actually quite scary but i made it home ok. The rest of the day was spend watching the wind blow and the rain come down. The yard got a good bit of water in it... but that is what happens when you live below sea level...

i got a few pics, but alas... i dont have digital so it may be a few months before i see em.

hope everyone else in the area came out ok... i wasnt really much of a storm. (not what we are used to anyway)

We closed the university for a cloudy day. I bet Dr Authement is kicking himself in the tail right now. It didn't even get windy! I was hoping to play in the rain too  Oh well, there's still plenty of storms to come, I'm sure.

Nice pictures eyelikeart, thank you for sharing. Are they pictures of your house and yard? Where you live are you 6" below sea level, or I guess what I'm wondering is all of New Orleans below sea level. It's amazing that you don't have more damage!

Jul 1, 2003, 03:09 PM
you can't seriously expect us to believe those colors are real.... hahahah!

i've attached a comparison of a picture i took along with a tweaked version (to get some colors along the lines of eye's hurricaine pictures)

i rest my case. ;)

The photos were taken at my mother's house. There wasn't nearly enough weather activity to bring any damage. As said earlier, this was a very minor storm.

Now, jello...u believe what u want. I have no reason to post fake images up. I was there, and I have witnesses who saw exactly what I did. ;)

Eye, Very interesting pictures. Those colors are so odd. I've seen yellows, blacks, greens, during a storm, but never that red, except at sunset of course.

Now I feel like I'm defending my own word here.

Like I said, it only lasted for about half an hour. The first few were simple ones I grabbed when it was still a bit yellowish out. The basketball goal I underdeveloped a little to get a better silhouette, but the others I didn't go overboard on.

Again...think what u will.

Sorry to debunk you here Jello.... but i must say, eye's pics are legitimate.

Here's why.

Let's use this one as an example:

http://www.eye-creative.com/bill/source/pict0019.html

Now. Had eye tweaked the hue/saturation on the photos to simulate the crazy pinkish red color, the light on the garage door (by the car) would also have taken on a hue that isn't that of a lightbulb. If the sky were, say, blue, and he tweaked levels the light, which is natural color, would have moved along with that of the sky.

Secondly, the grass does have a greenish hue to it. Again, if this were faked, the green would have went the way of the color tweak and wouldn't have retained the green. However, if it were real, which it is, the color of the grass would be green with a reddish pink hue to it, due to reflection of the light.

Secondly, to get that kind of color, he would have had to do a TON of extra saturation (assuming of course, that a hurricane storm's sky is greyish) to get that level of color. As such, the light that i referenced earlier would be blown out, and there would be a huge level of noise that would be introduced into the photo.

Reference this:
http://www.eye-creative.com/bill/source/pict0004.html

as a very clean photo. No noise there, for sure.

NOw I know we could say that he masked areas off, etc etc etc but really how far do we think eye would go to make some statement on a web site for a bunch of people he doesn't really know!

wouldn't "selective colour" be a good choice for this kind of colour correction??? saves a lot of the masking time... ;)

heh, ok, from hurricanes to photoshop tips in less than one page, not bad eh?

Actually, I've seen skies like that once before - again with a storm. Its a very odd feeling - but I don't doubt you eye. Photoshop is great but it sucks when people question your shots and don't realize that sometimes things can be very odd without the help of digital manipulation.

Again, great shots! :D

Perhaps you didn't think it conciously, but by posting a before and after to disprove eye, be it jokingly or seriously, you've admitted to some sort of thought process doubting him, and done so in a subconcious manner. ;)

By the way, I was hanging out with my boy james, who spent the last month and a half in Nawlins. Right near Eye, as a matter of fact.

He got home last night, and we were hanging and he told me about the "Crazy red sky" the night of bill that "i'm sure [eye] must have be shooting."

So there's our proof. ;)
