i've only ever used those keyboard for short amounts of time. how do they compare [besides looks] to a standard pc keyboard. as in, would you want to type a 20 page paper on it?

Well, I find it's a personal preference. Lots of people use them and love them, while I find them a bit too spongy for my liking.
