I am thinking of getting rid of my iBook for a C2D MB. i know i can get at least 500 for this, but i'm really more interested in a trade. i'm waiting on an offer i made on MR before i can cut the ties from this baby.

MY BOOK:

12" iBook G4 1.33Ghz
1.5GB Ram
160GB Hd
there is a 16x superdrive in here, but it hasn't worked since i bought it last year. but system profiler still recognizes it. i just have been blowing my money on other things instead of getting it fixed.

Battery holds excellent charge, and I believe this qualifies for the recall, tho i never called for a new bettery yet.

I have the box and restore DVD. as well as virtual pc. the ibook has normal wear and tear. some scratches.

WHAT I'D LIKE

I'm interested in an iMac. i'd like to trade for a 17" or 20" iMac G4. all G5's welcome, or even an intro core duo. I'd also trade for any mac mini with Front Row, tho i'd much rather like an iMac G4.

all offers with have to just wait a *little* bit until i get the macbook.

I have the same iBook as you, and was just wondering how hard it was to upgrade your HD. Mine has a 60gb, and I would really like more space that I could carry around with me vs my external setup.

Bump for a great system and the question, and goodluck on the sale!

I have a G4 as well...and I can say that it is VERY difficult. You can go to www.ifixit.com for instructions on how to do it, but I'll warn you that it's around 17 pages long, takes an estimated time of an hour and a half, and involves the removal of 20+ screws. I haven't done it personally. I don't want to risk voiding the AppleCare/breaking something important.

sweet thanks for the link, now i'll have to ponder doing the upgrade and see if it's worth it. Sorry for hijacking your thread, free bumps though :)

Two quick questions.

1. Is this a 12" or 14" (did I miss that somewhere?)

2. How do you have 1.5 GB of ram? Didn't these come with 256 soldered on board and one slot for up to 1 GB more? That would be 1.25 GB RAM?

It comes with 512 soldered in and you can add a 1 gig card. well, at least mine anyway

I stand corrected... you're right. Last revision had 512 soldered on.

sorry about that. this is the 12" flavor of iBook, and does indeed have 1.5 GB of ram.

hopefully the offers start piling in :p

I've taken apart an iBook with the ifixit guide to put in a hard drive. It's not that bad, as long as you have a plastic 'spatula' type tool, and the correct torx screwdriver. Just basically unscrewing a zillion screws, removing the hard drive, then putting all back together.

But if you aren't the type of person who is okay with taking things apart, better let your local apple place do it.

I think $500-$600 would definetly be fair for this iBook. The one in my sig cost me $529, and it's only a 1GHz with 30GB HD. You might be able to get more than $600, but anything above that would be a bit risky. Good luck! :)
